    When I tried that one with the RSPCA concerning a "nest" of feral kittens by the main road - they said they couldnt take them but would come and put them to sleep in the van. Brilliant.

    I ended up getting a very small charity to catch and take them to safety.

    Honestly, the RSPCA isnt as you see on the Rolf Harris series.

    The RSPCA do come out for this situation.

    We had a while back a dog that had made its home in some woods just at the edge of a busy road.

    Out came the policeto stop traffic and SPCA to catch the dog.

    Maybe just not letting go of this matter and taking it to a higher person.

    I'm just starting to think the poor thing will never get caught at this rate my mate has been sat outside till all hours in the rain tempting the dog with food but if she drops it anywhere closer than a few feet away the dog wuill wait till she eventually gives up and grab the food then rather than risk coming too close.

    DW has been again today and suggested that if there is a calm dog that my mate can sit with and feed and pet while the stray is in sight it might reassure the stray that she means no harm so looks like me and my pooch are heading over at the weekend if no joy by then to try that angle.

    The bit I have highlighted above gave me the idea that perhaps a vet would go out with your friend and leave some food contaminated with some sort of sedative. Obviously your friend could wait around until the wee dog is a bit woozy and wobbly on her feet, then she'd be much easier to catch. If that hasn't been thought of before perhaps it might be worth asking a vet for his/her opinion.

    This is inpractical, what if the dog escapes once its eaten the food, and either gets injured or hurt or worse because it cant defend itself

    I remember a story from years ago of how a neighbourhood got together to catch a stray dog. Its sort of extreme but worked after trying the one person feeding to gain trust didn't work after a month.

    Now ten of the neighbours decided to try and corner dog/surround the dog then throw an army netting over the dog then one of them was able to get the dog and take it straight to the vets.
  • My first ever dog was dumped near our house - after spending a week trying to catch her, we got the rspca out who caught her with a net! This was in the early 80's, but I would try them again, or try at a higher level - alternatively, maybe a small local rescue would help?

    Just a quick update for you still not managed to catch her although she does obviously see my friend as a source of food as she turns up at the house at the same times every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a light supper at about 10pm! Its going to be the fatest dog around if don't catch it soon. I checked about pregnancy and although not a definite they have been and looked for pups and found nothing and by the looks of her she doesn't seem to be feeding pups.
    Not been able to try taking my dog over (car probs and live in manchester) and see if her being calm around helps, they did try with another dog thats usually calm but it got a bit giddy and scared Lady (everybody is calling her Lady) and she disappeared back into the bushes for a few hours.
    Think will have to keep on trying the trust thing and failing that it will have to be a big group effort and some sort of net, they have tried pointing out to RSPCA that her feet are looking red and swollen and although she is not limping they do need treatment but even then they were useless and said well catch it and fetch it in not listening when told about the catching it problem just said it can't be that ill then.
    Im going to have a go at uploading a picture of her apologies in advance for quality it was sent to me by text.
    Will keep you all updated although at this rate it may take a while!
    :D:rolleyes:;):cool::o:rolleyes:;):o:o:cool:
