    morning all

i have the day off today as we're heading up north to see family - including my gorgeous nephew! He's doing great by the way, almost 11lb now (he'll be 6 weeks old on sunday). my sister is also much better.

I couldn't sleep in and dh was snoring so i've cleaned the bathroom and put the towels in to wash. I've also just generally tidies round. I will quickly put the dyson round before we go and that will do for this week. DH did the kitchen last night - not quite flylady standard but not bad!

I need some plain yoghurt for my breakfast, I'll have to nip/send dh to the spar when he gets up (i'm still in pjs). must also water the plants and empty the bins. we're back very late monday as we are going to the opera straight after we get back.

Job has continued to be great. it will be busy but i don't mind that. i feel like a different person - my ideas and opinions are valued and i am trusted to get on with things :)

soappie - just spotted the note about the flat. it's not too bad around there i don't think, depends whether you're talking about the road off or parallel to the high street. but you're right i think there is a community feel.

    Mornin' everyone...
    msg -
cally - who did you see?

We saw Thunder on their farewell tour, supported by the Quireboys. A great night, bit sad though, been a fan for 20 years!
Cally at least they are aware of it and monitoring it - try not to worry (too much!)

Thanks, I'm telling myself I'll worry about it in 6 months time if I need to! It helps that DD is ok with it.

hope you all don't mind me jumping in on this, as some of you may know my last job was basically getting people walking more, and my new one is similar....so a few thoughts which may help you. Please feel free to ask me more and well done on motivating each other! I[m sure you've worked most of this out but i thought it might help all gathered in one place!

    • step counters can be a great motivational tool, but remember that each brand will count slightly differently and some are better than others (not necessarily dependent on price). I would recommend the Silva brand
    • I did offer before but if people want a free pack with a step counter and somewhere to log your steps over 12 weeks plus hints and tips let me know - it's one of the things my old job did and I can still access them. flower has one ;)
    • in terms of fixing them, need to be on your waistband, to the side not at the front, if you have a bit of a tummy you can put it slightly further back. the best thing to do is attach it, walk around the room for 100 steps and the counter should show anything from 94-104 (most of the good ones have a 6 step default thing where they don't start counting immediately)
    • wear your counter every day for a week and record the steps each day. this gives you a baseline and you can try and up your count each week
    • you've probably heard 10 000 steps banded around, don't worry about this initially, it's a lot for most people (it's around 3.5 - 4 miles). these steps include all the moving around you do in the house, as well as actual walks.
    • most importantly, for good health we're recommended to do 30 mins of moderate intensity exercise on 5 days of the week. BRISK walking counts towards this - brisk is different for everyone and means you will feel slightly warmer and a bit out of breath - you can hold a conversation but not sing a song (this is called the 'talk test'). you can break the 30 mins into smaller chunks too if it helps (for me I walk 15 mins to and from the station each day and it's done). doing a 30 minute walk a day has loads of benefits and will up your step count!!

Hi Valli and Aunty - how are you both???

    tootsxx
    Morning toots
I'm up, washed, dressed, face on, breakfast being scoffed and intending to go into town for pedometer battery (no luck in local shops yesterday)
Woke to sunshine but getting cloudier by the minute:mad:

ANW'sMum - have a good day. Glad to see an employer recognising long service, but be prepared to be stared at by 'young ones' who think five years in a job is weird
