Dusty my new class will be Year 4, and I have no idea if they've been mixed up or what topics they'll be doing - this will be the first time I've been in the classroom, and the first time I'll have really taught year 4, so everything is new for me too. I emailed the school yesterday to ask if I'll need to plan activities and whether there is anything they usually do on these days and whether they could give me the email of the girl I'll be working with and they said they'd get back to me, but that was sent yesterday morning, and I haven't heard back yet. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to the planning meeting they had with the staff after school on Wednesday, cos I was teaching at a school in another county and wouldn't have made it back in time. It's all vey scary!
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

my five jobs this week are

    [STRIKE]replace remoska as broken[/STRIKE]

put cokezone codes online then bin the bottles nearly done, just another bag of bottles to go

    ebay 1 item

send off proof of change of name to CC company so I can balance transfer

    [STRIKE]Declutter 100 items.[/STRIKE]

Will probably add another declutter 100 items for the weekend.

The others I'm hoping to do either today or tomorrow.

You may have to bear with me as I feel absolutely dreadful and have done all week. My motivation is very low and I could quite happily have spent this week in a quiet room by myself.

Anyway, [STRIKE]I'll ram a box of [/STRIKE]take a couple of Ymea and hope for the best.:D

Well the good things are, they are not new to juniors, not in a SATs year and by now the parents should know all about labelling stuff. They will all be curious as to what you look and sound like (I'm talking from experience of when new staff join our school). So be you, we know you are lovely and I'm sure the kids and parents will too. Have you though about what you will do with the class when they come to meet you? A fun thing, inspiring, not too much like hard work but a good taste of things to come. If the kids come out and say Mum our new teacher is great then that will have them in the bag. At our school we have the head of that keystage present at such meetings so you I doubt you'll be on your own and that person can answer any general school related things. What is the school website like for ideas as to what the current Year 4 have done?

They have all gone now so it is very quiet. Going to get out in the garden now whilst the rain is not here and see how I get on.

Their school website is "under construction" still, so no help there. I did a search on TES and found an idea of taking a photo of them and then cutting it in half and they draw the other half then write a little bit about themselves, but was a bit worried about doing writing in case there are some that need a lot of support and I don't want to scare them off on their first meeting with me. Another idea that one of my old colleagues used was to creat a powerpoint about themselves and then do circle time where the children tell you about themselves and what they are looking forward to in year 4 and what they are worried about etc. Also create a class rules that they all sign and go over expectations for behaviour etc. Self-decorated name tags for their desks? Monitors, what they want in their classroom.
