Things magically going missing from our garden - What to do?!

Well, we've got a little CCTV camera - it's so tiny, couldn't believe it!! As suggested it's in the eves of the shed and wired into the shed's electrics and my old DVD player. Let's see how well that works!:j [STRIKE]Debt Free[/STRIKE] Savings Wannabe! :jCurrent problems: £107 overdrawn in bank, £112 in unpaid DD'sSavings made: £0

could also get a few burly friends to sit in the bushes one night, if you get a visitor, thet can shout "BOO!" hopefully they would mess their pants and not come back!0

My mums next door neighbor had a massive boa constrictor... when out old gypsy neighbors had been stealing things from the garden she made a point of showing it to them and told them it lived in the garden. Oddly enough nothing else disappeared!:rotfl:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

re taking the gates of the hinges, the top hinge should be ''upside down'' to make it impossible to lift. You cn of course still un screw, but with
substantial gate fittings this is not a very quick job.
I'd consider putting very thin cow type electric fencing in (attached to mains) running on the inside of what sounds like post nd rail fencing? (Inside I do not believe has to be signed, and frankly I see a lot as perimtre fencing not carrying warning signs). Don't be tempted to use a non mains method of powering: they are very popular to steal and pack less of a punch.0 -
Sorry to hear that you have things go missing from your garden.
We have often commented on our neighbour who goes out in the evening and comes back with things, usually garden ornaments, bricks, slabs, bags of soil.
We suspect that he takes these things illegally, otherwise why go out late evening. The family are known by the police for different things, and they quite often have the police pay a visit.
I would suggest putting in CCTV, or anything that would distract them.
You can buy some paint like substance that you can put on your gate/fences and when they touch it it they get "marked" with it, this substance does not wash off.
Hope you get it sorted

You need another one trained on the shed so you know who it is that stole your CCTV camera and DVD player.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

The shed is locked. :P
We caught him last night; Looks like such a young lad, only about 14-16. Have passed the footage onto the police who will "look into it". Of course. >.>;
(Last nights item that had gone? A lamp fitting for a Mk2 Fiesta.

Did you keep a copy of the footage for yourself? Do you recognise the kid??
I'd print out the image and put it in the back garden, somewhere where he'd see it if he came back!
A fiesta lamp?? Has this kid written an inventory of your garden possessions and is stealing to order? I'd be looking on ebay for someone selling an unusual selection of items in your area!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

We have a copy, yes. We don't recognise the kid.
The bottom of our garden does tend to be a haven for the weird and wonderful things that we're not using right now but may use in future! The fiesta lamp was replaced by one I had refitted after a crash. He is either stealing to order (But then, who orders half a bag of cement and a broken fiesta headlamp?) or he's just stealing for the sake of stealing.
Interestingly enough, we've discovered this morning the tub that the potted rose was in! We think he's brought it back!:j [STRIKE]Debt Free[/STRIKE] Savings Wannabe! :jCurrent problems: £107 overdrawn in bank, £112 in unpaid DD'sSavings made: £0

A friend's brother worked for a Thorntons and brought home a thing for wrapping easter eggs in cellophane when asked why he'd pilfered it by his brother and why on earth he'd want it - he said "well it was there and I could"
