Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 5 July. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Good morning everyone.

Up early here but I'm enjoying the peace :D It looks damp & drizzly out there but it all may change if the last few days are anything to go by.

The usual Sunday stuff going on here ironing, p.e. kits, shoes polished, homework checked etc etc ;) I'm doing lemon roast chicken, HM wedges and salad for tea so an easy meal.

Re the Enid Blyton books from our childhoods I was also a big fan of the Mallory Towers, Famous Five & St Clare's books. I quite fancied the idea of going to a boarding school where it would, of course, be all pranks, lacrosse & midnight feasts :rotfl: I could never get my parents to send me though!!

I hope that everyone has an enjoyable day & hugs where needed.

Penny Pincher Hope you're okay :A xx

Morning Sunnygirl and all who follow

Up and about far too early for Sunday morning but YD is poorly and the poor petal woke up feeling sick and temp soared about an hour ago.So I decided to get up with her rather than wake everyone else up.I've got a pile of ironing and loads of cleaning to do so no great hardship.

I've got MD's final mass of her sacramental programme this morning. Its the presentation of the certificates so I'll take her along later.OH is home till 12pm so he can look after the others so I dont need to traipse four kids with me.

It was raining here a few minutes ago and unless it cheers up I cant see me being able to finish off sanding and staining the garden furniture.I got one bench, one chair and the table top done yesterday. Also managed to get the barbecue frame sanded and stained too.Which was all well and good until it rained 30 mins later and they now all have watermarks on them:mad:They still look a lot better than they did though so all is not lost

If it rains today I have a load of jeans and trousers that need shortening so not exactly idle:rolleyes:.I've got the BM and the YM to go on later and need to christen tea.I usually mealplan but been too busy this last week to make one and I'm not sure what I fancy

(((((((((Hugs)))))))) to anyone that needs them

Morning. Sunny start down this way. Had a great time on the July 4th celebrations, but missed the £10,000 fireworks as the family got too cold and wet. The weather ruined things a bit..... But still had a great time eating imported Bubba burgers and drinking mountain dew and Miller beer. Free fairground rides, live bands and loads of other stuff. I guess the US economy can't be in that great a recession? #

Work today, I hope it's a lazy Sunday.... Cheers and have a good day

    Good morning

Grey & dull here at the moment. Had a good day yesterday clearing out my section of the study. Now OH wants me to help sort his half ! Plan for today is to put up a shelving unit in the lounge and re-organize the kitchen (OH doesn't know this yet ;)).

Re Enid Blyton books - I also loved Mallory Towers, St Clare's, Secret Seven & Famous Five. Never fancied boarding school but loved the idea of secret clubs and adventures, and was amazed at the freedom these children had.

Our first tomato is ripening :j, OH will be there with his camera later to record this milestone :p.

Lesley - hope YD is better soon

Wishing everyone a peaceful and happy Sunday

    Morning everyone

I too would have loved to attend Mallory Towers and St Clare's. Mind you I always thought the twins in St Clares were a bit spoilt and so I find myself edging more towards Mallory Towers. I used to love the Mystery books (I remember some kids in them being called Fatty - wouldn't get away with that in this day and age!), the Adventure books. Never really got into the Secret Seven or Famous 5. They are making a film about the life of Enid Blyton (according to Wiki - just been having a nose). I'd be quite interested to see that.

Anyway back to OS. Fascias are finally done :T My FIL has worked so hard he does deserve a medal :T
this now means that we can start tidying up the garden for next weekend. H has to get rid of some stuff at the tip but at least I can sweep the patio, weed etc etc. And more importantly DS can get out in the garden without my having to worry about tools being left out etc. Typical that the weather forcast for next week is nothing but showers
Got the usual suspects of ironing and a tiny bit of washing today. Tea tonight will be chicken cooked last week and put in the freezer.
Think one of the heads of broccoli is ready to cut so we could have that with the chicken tonight :D

Have a great Sunday, OS or not

    Morning All

Beautiful start to the day here and we had a lot of rain last night so the garden is looking good. Fingers crossed it stays dry today as we have the School Fete.

I am helping out on refreshments which is inside, I know what time I have to be there but dont know how long my shift is.

Other than that it will be normal stuff of ensuring kids have clothes for school and enough packed lunch supplies. Also need to do next weeks menu plan but ideally would like to hold off from shopping till the end of next week.

Redruby - will have to let you know about the potato dish tomorrow as it is postponed until tonight.

Re reading when I was younger, I really did want to go to boading school with my trunk and chocolate cake for midnight feasts, I read a lot of riding books and they always stopped off at a cafe called the Copper Kettle for hot chocolate - always wanted to do that to.

Off now for a quick peaceful surf before I jump in the shower.

We have a cafe called the Copper Kettle in out local town, :D if you are ever down this way I will treat you to a hot chocolate, and maybe a cakey if you are good :p

Morning all, Beautiful day here again, we are being really spoiled with this weather, I think it may have rained in the night which is good for my veggies. I picked peas and french beans from my garden yesterday and had them for tea :T

Today we are off to here we went last year, its a lovely day out, and they have a spring lamb spit roasting which you can have warm in a bagette , followed by a cream tea :D

DD's uniform is in the wash, will get that out in a bit, she spent yesterday in town with her mates, and came back looking like a lobster, despite me giving her sun cream , she 'forgot' to put it on  she is soooo fair and burns really easily, oh well she will look daft for school tomorrow .

Cheesy nabs for tea :D, our made up name for bits and bobs, ham, cheese bread, crisps, bits of salad and dips, its too hot for anything else, although I might make a quiche later.

Need to strip the bed and get that washed and on the line, then its off out.

    Have good days all.

Aussie, thanks for the pm  hope you are well xx
