The accident bit is wrong I'm afraid as I said earlier a lot of car doors lock as they drive off so they can't be opened from the outside. Again as I said if the child locks are on the rear doors won't open from the inside either.I'm not saying that what you say is wrong:rolleyes:
I'm saying that my car failed as the rear door was jammed locked and wouldn't open.
A garage wouldn't fail it too make money, I believe that the law on this only changed a few weeks/months ago as the car passed like it last year.
I understand that the tester told me its incase of an accident that they must open, both rear doors, the boot does not come under it though
As far as I'm aware the regulations have not changed but would welcome seeing the new regulations if this has changed.
It's not just about the money0 -
The tester will flick child lock off to test, as a child would be in the care of a responsible adult who has a duty to get said child out and not run off with their hands in the air. They are wrong on that I'm afraid as it only applies to the front doors. As far as the rear doors are concerned they only have to latch securely.
As far as accidents are concerned quite a few modern cars automaticaly lock the doors on the move so they couldn't be opened from the outside and if the child locks were on the rear doors wouldn't open from the inside either.
Also in case of an adult sitting in a child lock seat they would open the window to get to the outer door handle.
Having said that last time I worked in an MOT station was back in 960 -
I expect he got it sorted seeing as it was 2 yrs ago.0
