Ford Mondeo V6 Rear Door Won't Open - Deadlocked

So long as the rear doors latch ok they would pass but it would fail on lack of access to check rear seat belts and mountings etc. A 4 door car doesn't have tilting front seats to climb in the back etcharveybobbles wrote: »Didn't realise rear doors were part of the MOT...?It's not just about the money0 -
Front doors are, but rear doors aint. As it isn't fair.
Same rule for reverse lights. some cars have one, others have two. Rear wipers etc etc...0 -
all doors have to open from the inside and outside in case of and acccedent. reverse lights are not checked the police dont even stop you for having non working reverse light. tho having a working one is usefull on some cars as a spare bulb for when a rear side or brake light bulb blows0

Yes advised by test station that ALL doors MUST open from the inside and out incase you are involved in a road accident.
They don't need to lock HOWEVER if they don't and you don't advise the insurance company they don't you could get into problems if you ever need to make a claim.0 -
They are wrong on that I'm afraid as it only applies to the front doors. As far as the rear doors are concerned they only have to latch securely.Yes advised by test station that ALL doors MUST open from the inside and out incase you are involved in a road accident.
As far as accidents are concerned quite a few modern cars automaticaly lock the doors on the move so they couldn't be opened from the outside and if the child locks were on the rear doors wouldn't open from the inside either. It's not just about the money0 -

But Silk it does say on my failure sheet:
Rear door does not open (an item not tested) manual
I was told it had failed on that
Was this wrong???0 -
The problem with a 4 door car with dead locked rear doors is access to the back to check seat belts mountings etc etc they could fail you on access but not the fact that the doors won't open. But Silk it does say on my failure sheet:

I have also just ran a VOSA online check, It most certainly is a failure for the rear doors not to open and close as it says on there website:
Failure:
Rear Door does not open (an item not tested) manual0 -
Heres the regulations for opening and closing doors you will see it only applies to the front and that the others have to latch ........

I'm not saying that what you say is wrong:rolleyes:
I'm saying that my car failed as the rear door was jammed locked and wouldn't open.
A garage wouldn't fail it too make money, I believe that the law on this only changed a few weeks/months ago as the car passed like it last year.
I understand that the tester told me its incase of an accident that they must open, both rear doors, the boot does not come under it though0
