Ford Mondeo V6 Rear Door Won't Open - Deadlocked
Hi all!
I'm new here and in need of some advice, to save me some money
I have a Ford Mondeo V6 that I brought nearly a year ago, I have done loads of work on it since buying it (over £2000) and it is due it's MOT soon, so I thought I'd take it along early for a 13 months MOT.
It almost passed with flying colours, but failed.
The rear door won't open, it never has since I had the car but the other one will so haven't been that bothered about it, however they have told me it is a failure and needs to open from inside and out.
The childlock is on and the central locking motor has failed, meaning the door is doubled locked and deadlocked by the childlock.
I have had the door card off and there is simply no room to do anything, and no way of getting it open.
I have had to book it in to effect forceable entery to the door, by this I have been told hopefully no damage to the door or body will take place just simply the motor (hopefully) but been told looking 3-4 hours labour going into £120.
I have a new central locking motor it's just looks like its an impossible DIY job; even the garage has no ideal how there going to do it
I have a replacement central locking motor ready to fit.
I have had alook online and some people have paid £450+ to have it opened and some have resorted in cutting the door out and placing it as it appears a coomon fault for the rear door to lock up on MK2 Mondeo's.
Anyone who has had the same problem or know anyone who has who may have some ideal how to get the door released.
Thank's

You might be better off asking on https://www.fordmondeo.org0

I have asked on there, no joy hence coming to this forum0

This happened to an old Cavalier I used to own.
I managed to get the card off eventually and with a fair amount of arm skin removal as I scraped and forced my arm, trying to bend it where there are no joints, I managed to grab something (no idea what) and kept pulling/pushing/poking and the door lock popped up.
Took about 3 Months for the skin to grow back on my arm.0 -
Maybe worth giving the dealer a call.
Might be they have a bit of knowledge which means they can do it in no time or tell you how too.0 -
Off to garage with car today
Been told to expect a minimum bill of £100 to effect entery.
Have replacement central locking motor (£147 + vat from Ford)
Wish me goodluck, has to be done whatever the cost for the MOT0 -
Could it be worthwhile informing VOSA of this problem? Surely, for safety reasons, the door locking system should fail safe? i.e.if the system/motor does, as in your case, fail then the door(s) revert to an unlocked state.0

I haven't thought about it however have been advised by the garage the fact it has failed on the door not opening has been recorded against the car on VOSA database, I imagine they will keep record of this after repair.
What has happend is the child lock has been active, the motor has failed, had the childlock not have been on you would have been able to open it by pulling the handle inside while someone else pulls the one outside, however due to the childlock being on this has made it a whole lot harder!
:rolleyes:0 -
Take the lining off the other door when open and see if you can get to the child lock from the inside and then try again on closed door if possible?0

pull the door card off (it wont come off easy and you might need a new one) and see if you can reach the child lock from the inside. i havent had a go at the problem before another thing you can try is to smash the lock caseing from inside the door and take it all apart untill you get to the catch. a new door lock is only £15-20 second hand try eurocarparts for cheep parts
2 torx bolts and 2-3 rods easy to do your self just a little tricky due to the space
