confuzzled, you can explain all you like bit it still eeads the same way to me.

Let me give you the best advice I can.

Don't try and dance your way out of it. Be honest, accept you were wrong and apologise. If you are very lucky you will keep one job; if you are lucky you may be dismissed with a decent reference.

also be aware I would say 10 days in a year is a very high sickness rate.

But there was a policy that said if you apply internally, it just has to be a senior manager. I was internal therfore I thought it could be any and although the application said "current line manager" I thought this didn't apply to me. I didn't do it deliberately to mislead them. I had thought it was allowed.

I didn't lie to reduce my hours either. As I said, I had personal circumstances. I can't prove it but I did.

Yes the sickness is my fault but I handed the form in about 30 minutes before the deadline. There was no way I could access my records to see the exact amount. Therefore I estimated it.

the problem her is its obviusly not an issue now
so yout 1st job could see this as deceit

I know thats the problem. :( My only way of proving is the referee who gave it as I have a professional relationship with her. When I told her to about the job, I said I don't even think I can keep it because of my personal situation. I have no other way of proving it. I did have this in an email to tell her about my personal situation. Although I didn't go into it in detail.

Thank you Emmzi, 9 of the 10 days of the sickness was authorised by a doctors note. My previous years, I've had about 2 days off a year and some years I've had none - in that case I'd say my sickness record is pretty decent as it was only because it was authorised I had 10 in the last financial year.

I will be honest and say I was wrong and apologise. I won't expect to be kept but I hope to be given the opportunity to at least resign then have this on my record.

I am sorry if I have come across as a deliberate liar - I really did not think it was, I was just sorting my life out but didn't do it quick enough. My referee, yes I shouldn't have but I guess I was worried. I will have to hope.

Emmzi, should I bother explaining any of this or not? I do accept I was wrong but I would like to be given a chance to explain myself at the very least.

With absencem it doesnt really matter if it is signed by a doctor or not - the issue is, are you fit to fulfil the terms of your contract? So I wouldn't go there.

    I would just stick to
    - I didn't know my exact days sick so I estimated. Don't mnention you only had a short time to apply cos I would want to know why you were that disorganised
    - manager X will be able to confirm you had discussed giving notice, just not got round to it yet
    - you genuinelky thought 2nd line manager would be ok for a reference but clearly yu realise that is not the case now

Any form of justification sounds like fudging it.

Thank you Emmzi, Ok fair enough - the sickness was bad.

BTW, I only had a short time to apply because I saw the application the day before deadline which is a rubbish excuse but is the fact. I didn't notice earlier or actively seeking employment elsewhere.

With my first job - if they ask me to prove my personal circumstance, how can I do so? My only proof of conversation was with the other referree.

Are you sure that the need for the referee to be your current line manager is for external candidates.

Given that many companies don't allow line managers to provide references, that only HR can do this, it is rather unfair on an external candidate to ask for what may not be allowed by their current employer.

On the other hand, the council will obviously allow a line manager to give a referee - at least for internal vacancies.

What sort of work do you do? Is it the sort where you have to understand written instructions?
  • In the first I was front line and in the second it was a technical role.

I didn't really read what it said for external employees, I only focussed internal and it didn't mention direct line manager so although the form said so I assumed that was for external. There was no seperate application form for internal staff. They contacted both my referees given although the procedure says to contact one only as I was internal.

You know what they say about assumption:rolleyes:

You can cry intent all you want but if your not dismissed you will be extremely extremely lucky.

I think this will lead to dismissal.... :(

I really shouldn't have assumed but I was so stressed with other things I did and didn't bother checking it up... :(

It seems someone will be getting used to the slackness of JobCentre Plus very soon.....and will get sanctioned too.

Another amazing person on MSE who cries, but as they do so admit for all to see that they are the one in the wrong. As has been said above, dismissal appears to be warranted as the ability of your employers to trust you has gone.

JSA is (contribution based) £101.90 a fortnight (under 25) and £128.60 (over 25) - that's until they sanction you for being dismissed. Enjoy.
