There's a new card now that doesn't charge a foreign transaction loading fee for purchases made abroad, the Audi Card. It also has some other great benefits like price promise and extended warranty on certain goods.http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=232543"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

Having read through (most of) this thread I'm thinking about using Travelex to provide some readies then top up from ATMs as necessary.
I am just a little concerned as to how long it might take to collect the cash at the airport. I would hate to be stuck in a queue when the flight is called.
We are flying from Gatwick at 0820 on a Sunday morning. What do you reckon - deal or no deal?
Thanks.0 -

Get to the airport a bit earlier? Can't really predict how long the queue will be. I've used it in Heathrow and I had to wait about 5 minutes."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Applied for the Audi Credit Card = Success
Applied for Flex Account = Success
Both painless and quick to go through.
That should cover most of my holiday spending :money:
Might take some Sterling cheques as backup.
I was checking my travel wallet after I booked my holiday to Amsterdam / Holland as I knew I had some money left from my last holiday 2 years ago.... €330 :eek:Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

Sterling TC's for which desitation?
I used to take US$ TC's as a backup, but now I don't even bother with TC's wherever I go. I do however take local currency or US$ or Euro to certain destinations, but it really depens on where I am going."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

If you are going to take TC's then take Euro TC's. However I wouldn't really bother taking TC's at all. Would stick to Euro notes or getting money out of the ATM."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

Ah but how much earlier? I shall be there from about 0630 but I've no idea how long check in will take.
It's hypothetical now anyway, as my wife's gone and changed the lot at the post office!!!0 -

Definately worth asking for a better price at Thomas cook.
I was going to use travelex and pick some money up at the airport.
I was getting 8000K of czech money -travelex was the best online deal at 40.04 to the pound
Natwest is 38.5 who I normally use, but wont anymore after reading this thread.
Anyway, passing thomas cook I popped in to ask what their rate was.
36 was the reply to which I started walking off.
The guy then asked what rate I had been offred and I said 40 from travelex.
with 60 seconds he had offred me 40.05 which was an even better rate.
This is a £22 saving on the first rate they quoted.
They are ripping people off with their intial rate but seem flexible to pricematching.I have links to financial and bankruptcy advisors
