Thank you Fang,. I thought I had missed the point when I read that post yesterday.
How can someone ask for me not to apply when surely I have as much right as anybody if I'm going to be facing hardship.
Personally I think it should be for unexpected hardship, and not for someone who hasn't adequately planned. So quite why you want to apply before you get there is a bit strange. That may be why applications are accepted throughout the year, but once the money's gone, the money's gone.
You've got the maximum in student finance help, so you've already got more than most, and priority is given to those with different circumstances. It's fair enough that you will apply, but you should do so in good faith. Money will be extremely tight and should only go to those in the most serious of cases, but unfortunately the most serious cases don't all happen in September.0 -
TBH I should be fine at Uni, money will be tight, but not horrendous.
The opening post of this thread encouraged people to apply because there was apparently all this free money that you could be entitled to, hence why I was looking into applying in the hope that it could make life easier.
If I apply, it certainly will be in good faith.9/70lbs to lose0 -
Harship for me is because of a recent redundancy, which I believe is one of the things they appreciate. I have time to save, but things will be a lot harder than they were meant to be. I also live away from uni in my own flat, so I have more monthly expenses than if I lived in halls.9/70lbs to lose0

Get another job. Any job. Move into halls. You have options that other students do not.0 -
I too think it should be for unexpected hardship. The vast majority of students will have money issues, despite the fact the days of living in bedsits and eating beans on toast seem to have disappeared. If you do want to go for it be prepared to have your bank statements examined and be able to account for every purchase.0

I'm not asking for advice thank you.
My outgoings are covered for now, so I'm fine.
I can't move into halls, I live too close to the Uni.
I do have other options yes, but I suggest you look back at the opening post of this thread and wind your neck in accordingly.9/70lbs to lose0 -
Opening Post - 'I would seriously apply even if you think that your not that bad off as like I said they are desperate to give it away.'
So, Fang, forgive me for actually reading it and taking the advice.9/70lbs to lose0 -
The first post is also dated 2006. Times (and funding!) have changed a lot since then.0

That is a fair comment, but I wasn't to know that.
To be under the assumption of not planning in advance for Uni and to be told to just 'get a job' is quite rude and unecessary to be honest. (fang)
I'm trying to be money savvy and get all the help I can, so if the opening post is old and not up to date, then maybe it should be amended so as not to mislead people who then get it in the neck for enquiring.9/70lbs to lose0 -

It is a nonsense that you can't move into halls. You can. Or you could get a much cheaper house share?0
