Sainsbury shrinks honey jars by 25%

Not long ago, Sainsburys discontinued the whole range of their "taste the difference" honey, replacing it immediately with what looked like just slightly different flavours at more or less the same price....
The shape and colours of jars and labels are identical, so it is not immediately evident that what they have done is replace the 454 gr jar for a 340 gr one. Beware if you happen to buy this product, as I used to do! Will have to find a similar one elsewhere!

It's a non-price price increase, it means you don't pay more so it's not that bad. It's not a sneaky move to get more money, it's more a sneaky move to make it look like prices aren't increasing when they need to.

Where is your maths? You pay for what you get, gram per gram, so in this case it is a 33% increase in price. And it IS sneaky. A lot of people who are too old or too naive, or not good at maths will pay that increase without realising.

Loyd Grosman sauces are smaller, as are Shloer and Cabury's Fingers. If you find something whose price hasn't gone up, you can almost guarantee that it's shrunk.

If every company did this imagine the size of the jars/boxes in years to come

They wouldn't be good for a doll house

An old favourite of mine is chocolate it never ceases to amaze me the size not content with size they now increase the grooves in chocolate to decrease the weight even more

Personally I always go by weight... and if it is not anywhere on the label (many cereal manufacturers do this) I take the item to the scales.

We might be in "recession" but supermarkets (and other big companies) continue to make BIG money

I thought all Cereal had the weight on the side of it? There are exceptions but cereal can only be sold in particular weights anyway:

    125g, 250g, 375g, 500g, 750g, 1kg, 1.5kg, or multiples of 1kg.

I always check the weight of what I buy when I "compare". Some companys make big jars/containers but they contain less then the cheaper ones.

    It is sneaky but CLEVER!

Interestingly, I have 2 lots of honey in my cupboard. Asda and co-op already have 340g jars.

What I mean is: The reason for the decrease in size is so it doesn't look as expensive, the price increase was probably inevitable (either you pay 33% more or you get 33% less honey).
