If so you have nothing to worry about! If you were in bed all day then it may be slower - either way, Abbey should be demanding proof of ID (only Passport or Driving Licence) for that size counter transaction and if they failed to request or check it they could get done themselves by the FSO......
I'd just ring and complain, but good luck whatever you decide to do.

A crime has been committed. Have reported this to the Police?
If not you should and get a crime number.
I had something similar happen many years ago, it had to go to court and a conviction before I got my money put back into the account. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

I'm a bit clueless as to what this report would show though, if someone is using my identity then I will know about it??
Thanks in advance.
Send £2 to Experian and Equifax by post and you can get your report that way: there is an article on the main board explaining this in detail. I would imagine you can pay with a postal order but you may need to provide some sort of ID.
Your report may (or may not) show up credit cards or searches that you have no knowledge of, in which case these are fraudulent applications.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
THE fraud dept thing is true tho.... got the same thing myself a while back.
i still love abbey tho.0 -
simon templar is generally spot on, though obviously hasn't worked in a branch for a while (as that's where I work now). Whoever made the withdrawals should have had some genuine proof of your account (ie original statement or debit card) and some secondary proof of being you (ie passport, driving licence or other bank's card). Given that the transactions were recent your local branch should be able to get you a copy of the signed withdrawal slip confirming what ID was seen at the point of transaction.0

On a related note, had my debit card stolen this week and the thieves were able to make three over-the-counter withdrawals in one afternoon, two in the Forest Gate branch and one in the Clapham Junction branch. The total loss is £584 - which is a lot to me.
It seems the Forest Gate branch has admitted that staff don't ask for further ID, and the Clapham branch reckons it does. So the Fraud dept asked how the thieves could have known anything about me. All I could think of was that there was also a student card in my purse (student card and purse not stolen - only debit card) which has my DOB on it.
Bizarrely, though, last week I did get somewhat paranoid when my computer repair man had my broken laptop for a couple of days trying to retrieve my data. Got worried that somehow he could steal info like bank passwords from web browser - probably impossible but I'm not technically minded. So changed online banking passwords quickly, and it's only since the bank card was stolen I've had anything nicked.
But weird that Clapham branch claim the thieves gave further ID. The branch could be lying of course. Fraud dept is of course now obtaining the withdrawal slips to compare the signatures with mine. They haven't made me liable for the money (so far) I'm happy to say...0 -
Interesting how you are looking at blaming a bank for releasing money rather than considering how your details were cloned. You have had a massive cash transaction through an internet poker site - can you be certain all the details you supplied to this site are 100% secure?
It looks like ID fraud which will have been done by an extremely well organised group. Getting your details, having clone cards made, false ID - the lot.
You won the money in May, it's now July, plenty of time for them to sort things - and how conincidental this happens just after you have won a large amount of money.
LOL you cannot be serious. Do you really expect me to not be mad at Abbey for allowing two separate £4500 withdrawals on the same day at branches 5hours away from me?? without even a phone call???
come off it mate, I'm not gonna take this lying down...this is nine grand we are talking about.
As for those who have given advice in this thread, it is much appreciated...thank you.
I got a phone call from the guy in charge of the investigation on Tuesday, nice fella, gave the impression that I would have the money back fairly soon. Will keep you posted.0 -

I agree, it is entirely the banks fault and not only do you want your money refunded, you want to demand an internal investigation as to why this was allowed to happen - twice in the same day at different branches may I add - and also ask for some compo - £100 or so should do the trick. Either way, it really needs to be reported to the relevant bodies as this is ridiculous! At the end of the day, all banks should be held responsible for their shortfalls and this, i'm afraid to say, is so shoddy the cashiers should also get the boot.
I've never in my life heard of a bank giving out £4500 over the counter without quizzing the person..... at the end of the day, if it was me then i'd be happy to be quizzed because i'd realise they were looking out for my best interests...... have the days gone where you withdraw more than £3k that they take you into a room to count it out? Most banks used to do something similar, in case people behind you in the 'Q' decided to rob you (if they knew you had £4.5k on you lol)
