Assuming you can still skip the check before it starts and that the computer subsequently boots into Windows without issue, you can prevent it from running in future by following these instructions.0

I don't know how to get it to skip the check, it runs every time I start and I can't seem to get out of it and as it does not complete properly it runs again and again :-(2007 £1749

In that case you'll need to reinstall Windows.0

Still at least you can only blame yourself, instead of having to blame the partner, shame though you've noone else to blame
Sorry about that incidentally, I had been reading a thread elsewhere and I got the two mixed up.
Throwing the computer in the bin? Kind of like throwing the baby out with the bathwater isn't it? Have you tried turning it off and pulling the harddrive out? Maybe jump into the bios, get it to boot from CD\DVD where it will be met with something like the Ultimate Boot CD which you will download along with a suitable or equivalent USB Boot Disk from many of the places online: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=boot+disk+download&aq=0s&oq=bootdisk+download&aqi=g%3As1&fp=-WPIvmzc7xw the USB equivalent: http://www.bootdisk.com/pendrive.htm you could even do a WinPE Boot Disk so you can look at windows when you get in there: http://windowsconnected.com/blogs/joshs_blog/archive/2007/02/05/creating-a-bootable-winpe-2-0-usb-key.aspx
Just imagine the possibilities once you've got a working environment to play with.
I'm sure Strider, or Tanglefoot can think of a few ideas at this point.
Failing that of course, pull the drive stick it in a external caddy. Purchase new drive, stick into laptop and well install windows.
Banning them works, or you could take the precaution of backing up your data externally, I'll assume you do this if you're not concerned with throwing the laptop away.tbh other people using my computer equipment costs me too much wasted time.... everyone is now officially banned from using my pc :-)
Then you could build a deployable image which could have you back up and running in around 20 minutes. I have an nlited image that does that, I also have a quick Acronis backup which deploys in around 15 minutes. You could consider such a thing you know, Acronis has the benefit that it also backs up your emails etc, upto the point you took the backup. Which if you were to set it to run every Sunday Night say, you could have a problem on Monday morning and not even miss the next days emails
Or you could put the computers in a room, then lock the door
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
