  • I don't think anyone is on here to drum up business, particularly me. The idea of these forums is to share experiences and those of us in the industry may be able to enlighten to you to the fact that there is more to conveyancing than form filling and unfortunately demand has become so high in some areas that cheaper fees and corner cutting have ensued. This isn't gloating, or criticising, it's just a reflection of the fact that those professionals who do a bad job have given the rest of us a worse name.

    Hi
I am new to this forum and have just registered as I am a conveyancer who has just taken over some clients who had been using Wolstenhomes before they went out of business. I don't charge £99 for conveyancing, I am closer to £600, but I would be horrified if any of my clients came out with stories like I have seen in this thread - in fact I would leave the profession and admit I was a lousy lawyer!
That said, anyone who has lost out can contact the SRA for a compensation form to claim any money they have lost and if the Stamp Duty Land Tax or Land Registry procedures have not been completed, someone else can take that over and sort it out for you. You will end up spending the money you saved on legal fees.
So please - don't panic. Get a decent lawyer to sort things out for you and learn in future that you get what you pay for.
This is not meant to sound harsh as I act for many first time buyers who are very cost conscious - so they should be - and need to save on costs. But there is a reason we all do our exams and most good lawyers, especially qualified ones, would not work for such low fees.
Having also dealt with the solicitors who dealt with the intervention in Manchester, if anyone needs their details let me know - I am dealing with a very good lady there who has helped me to rescue a purchase transaction for some clients and she is always happy to help.
    All the best
    LadyLawyer

Not criticising and not looking for business - enough said!
  • Look, you may have a problem with solicitors because of a bad experience, but I think you should take things in the spirit in which they are meant.

I have enough clients and the kind of mess they made of things at WH I am not looking to get hold of any more of their files, thanks!

Lady Lawyer is as welcome on this forum as you and me....I think she is 100% correct making people aware about what happens when you go for the "cheap as chips" option.....
  • I did not join this forum to be lectured I joined to try and get help - it is not helpful to be criticised for using WH nor is it helpful when people make presumptions about whats been paid and what has not, and use statements like cheap as chips. If people have inside knowledge of others who can help perhaps they can ask those people where the missing files are, whats happened to the information on the computers. I have been informed from reliable sources that DWF are being paid mega bucks for their part in this. I wonder how many other solicitors are like mine and keep upping the bill. No wonder they have a bad name. Also I wonder why this has been so contained as it only seems to be reported locally in the news. I think it's about time it was reported further afield so that the proffession is seen for what it's worth

well I think the "system" has ensured that it has worked this way

they closed the firm just before Xmas ( good time to bury news)and I agree the whole issue has received very scant attention from the media or "overseers"

I am also exceedingly pessimistic that the SRA's role will be examined, or that any heads will roll

It actually calls for a high level review, at least parliamentary Select Committee level, but I have no doubt that lawyers will brush it all under the carpet

And complain to your MP?? will i for one, have suggested this (www.writetothem.com) but guess what ??? Parliament (both Houses) are full of these slimey lizards who will do everyhting to defend their own, inferior species

Shakespears was right " First of all, we kill all the lawyers"

Whatever your experience has been it has left you very bruised...however with statements such as "I think it's about time it was reported further afield so that the proffession (profession) is seen for what it's worth"...I don't think this is going to encourage any professional to support you.....

Lady Lawyer and Vigilant22-Members on here who have used Wolstenholmes(me too) had no idea that these lot were dodgy.

If price was the issue ,there are other establishments on the internet that charge similar low prices. Are you saying they are all dodgy too?

Now let's be honest you would enjoy them all closed down so that you can charge even more fees and have a closed shop.

Or are you saying that if you pay the 'correct price' then you are guaranteed a thorough service.

Which dodgy solicitor shall we start with? http://www.corruptlawyers.co.uk/dispatches.aspx

    Jut checking the prices now.

As long as the big bucks are being paid the "proffessionals" - ("professionals") will be lining up to support me!

I am not a solicitor/conveyancer ...personally I would never instruct anyone over the net to do any conveyancing....
