hi, my first post, been lurking for a day or two, normally I get organised around September time for Crimbo but possible redundancy in september has speeded up this process

love this board, loads of ideas, have cut n paste my favourite ones into a word doc so i don't forget them

anyhoo found this wee bargain, though would be great to divide up the pack (24 fluffy pens for £11.96) for presents/ stocking fillers or party bags, i added on 2 photo albums (BOGOF), so get free postage

We also do our own spin of a magic elf with ben but as i can never find elves it is usually a teddy of some sort, last year in a cancer charity shop I found a pretty floppy dog teddy who had a rubbish old bow on it so i replaced the bow with Christmas ribbon, decorated a box with wrapping paper and stuffed it with an old pillow and left it under our Xmas tree the day after we;d put the tree up with a special note from Mrs Claus which went somethign along the lines of

    Dear Benjamin,

Its Mrs Claus here! I expect you didnt think you would be hearing from me before Christmas. Well let me explain I have a bit of a problem and I hope you can help.

Things are so busy up here in the north pole, elves are running around, Santa is busy making sure his sleigh is working and his reindeer are nice and strong to pull it and I have been mending Santa's suit and making lots of cookies for all the hard working elves so they can get all the toys finished for the good boys and girls.

But as you can see I have sent you our poor little doggie Merry, she's awfully sad because we are all so busy and no one has time to play with her or do any fun Christmas things. Its her favourite time of year too.

So I looked through Santa's good boys list and I found your name at the top so I was hoping because you have been such a good boy and Santa tells me he always sees you at the parade every year and that you do lots of christmassy things if you would mind looking after he for me until Christmas Eve. I promise she wont be any trouble but she does like to eat lots of cookies if she's given the chance so make sure you keep the biscuits tin closed!

I;ll make sure Santa picks her up on Christmas Eve when he drops your presents off but just make sure she is snuggled up nicely in her bed each night for me and that she does lots of nice things.

I cant wait to hear her stories when she gets back!

    Lots of Snowflake kisses

    Mrs Claus.

Wow, I love that Idea, and love the letter you write, it bought tears to my eyes. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks Sarah

Ben loved it last year and we did lots of things with Merry the dog although this year I don't know how I'll do it again. I think I might get him another animal teddy but something different this time. Picking out a Christmas name for the 'pet' is hard enough in itself though.

No idea this year but I think I'll find something.

    Did see this on Ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Fairy-Magic-Pixie-Elf-Door-WELCOME_W0QQitemZ230361008966QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Collectables_MythicalCreatures_RL?hash=item35a2960b46&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_500wt_975

and thought I might somehow attach it to the wall and decorate around it a little bit with holly etc and leave little notes every morning like mini missions for the day for Ben to do with a little chocolate (instead of an advent calender) from the elves.

I like that door and the Idea is lovely, you have some wonderful ideas you should write a book "Lovely Ideas for a magical Christmas"

I might pinch that idea too as I think my 2 sons who will be 9 and 6 by christmas would love the little mission a day.

    Thanks hun

I love Christmas and Ben is just as Christmas mad as I am - he was walking round earlier singing Jingle Bells, although his step brother is very anti Xmas because his mum will barely put a tree up let alone any decorations (its more she has to because she has a child) so doing special things with Ben is lots of fun if the step son doesn't spoil it - although excited to have number 2 on the way now means i get to act like a child at christmas for longer lol.

Have just been informed by the maker that she is able to make a ssssshhhh! elf sleeping one so i will be getting one of these nearer to Xmas I think. She said its only £3.50 +£2.50 P+P but i don't mind as its going to make lots of memories with my son every year.

well i have just 4 presents to get which i will b buying mid august then my ds and dd r done! woohoo so excited about that
then its just the rest of the family to be done!! i know what im getting most of them tho.

dh and i have decided to do a wish list for each other this year for the 1st time, mainly because hes rubbish at buying presents and tends to give me money, which i dont like! so im helping him along lol

ive always been a xmas nut, but this year is going to be really exciting as ds will be almost 3 and i can start all the little traditions that make xmas magic i.e leaving cookies for santa etc.
he does know what xmas is about as he remembers from last year and even 'rang' the big guy the other day to ask him for some figures he's seen!
dd will be 22months so wont really understand as much, but she tends to follow everything ds does so im hoping she'll b just as excited!!!

    cant wait!!

My boys have one of those little wind up musical Christmas trees with the 24 tiny drawers. Used to put a mini choc or a couple of smarties in it when they were younger. Nowadays (they're 13 & 12 and still insist on it) I write a little cryptic note with a clue to the location of the treat. Sometimes they guess straight away, sometimes it takes ten minutes. Both love this.
