    Hi Jemtom

I made my first vinyl record bowl last weekend - I heated the oven to about 180c (just normal roasting temperature, I guess) and then put a large pyrex glass mixing bowl (so it is heatproof and won't shatter) upside down on the middle shelf. I then place the vinyl record on top of this, making sure it was perfectly central. I then shut the oven door and left it for about 4 minutes.

When I opened the oven door, the record had become very floppy and was draping itself over the pyrex bowl. The edges became sort-of wavy (a bit like a flower, I suppose).

I took it out of the oven carefully and then using clean tea towels folded into thick pads, I pressed and smoothed the record against the sides of the bowl until I was happy with the shape. The vinyl cools and hardens quite quickly, but I discovered that it would soften again if put back in the oven for about 30 seconds, enough to carry on the shaping process.

Make sure you keep the centre bit of the record (where the label is) very flat, so the bowl will stand up properly when it has cooled.

    Good luck!
