Shes on 20 gross & he's on 12 + commission gross, I doubt they would (or even should) get a 153k loan on that.

Those figures were based on her on £20k and him on £15k gross.

You'd have to type their exact figures in yourself to get the real figures being offered, but I don't think mine were too far off?

Plus I was using Lloyds (as they are fairly standard) - you'll get other lender who will lend more (or less) depending on criteria.

Don't think that would cut much mustard with the bank for getting a mortgage;)

Actually it does. Tips are counted as wages for waiting staff. As is overtime if it's regular and accountable. Different lenders have different criteria.

Don't be so defeatest until you've tried and have actually beeb turned down a few times!

are you really saying its feasible for someone to maintain paying a £153k mortgage, when their income drops to £15k - £20k, once children arrive and they decide to become a sahp?

If you really want to carry on this discussion could you please start a thread in DT instead of sending this thread off at a tangent. Thanks

Weezl - any chance of you posting the 7 options you couldn't put on the poll?

    Agree on both points :).
I would be interested in all the options weezl had orginally wanted....

As been mentioned a few times now, its not as black and white as earning 20K, 30k or 80k to be able to stay at home...

Every single one of us on here will live in different areas, earn hugely different amounts (more and less) our idea of 'cutting back' will be drastically different to the next person, our mortgages will have hundreds of pounds difference per month and no two persons outgoings will ever be the same - its not a simple as 28K = rich.

    Having a lodger
Ideally I wanted to split 'add to/extend term of debt' from 'add to/extend term of mortgage', as I think this is different in lots of people's minds.

I also wanted to split the use 'second hand things' option down into things for baby and things for all the family

I had a 'up your income using mystery shopper/surveys etc' option

I did have 'downsize house' but that's been thrashed out already here!

I had a 'save prior to having the baby' option, also discussed already

I had a 'cease life assurance/mortgage protection/income protection policies' option

and a 'suspend/reduce pension contributions' option, that took it up to 17 so I removed some and merged others to get down to 10 :)

no matter, people have said (kinda) what I wanted to know;)

as you say, i think the other 7 options are more or less covered under other points

And as said above everyones situation is different, but if everyone did all 17 of the points on your list, then there would be no families with two working parents - every household would have one wage earner, who could support their family once children arrived
