Aw what a lovely present your OH is getting you , i its very thoughtful and will be such a lovely sight throughout the years to come:D.
I'm quite low maintenance i must admit, everyone thinks i'm mad though.
For valentines day, we both went out for lunch, i.e chip shop lunch, whopping £4.70 for us both. Then we treated ourselves to a gooseberry bush and rhubarb plant. Were both chuffed with them, and think its great as we both got what we wanted and we can enjoy them for years to come.
Attempted to go out and clean up the yard today ready for planting and failed miserably:o. Too blooming cold and along with two cats hissing at me whilst i removed them from the compost filled bag. I tell you they worse than children!
But tomorrow is a new day and i WILL be braving the cold!0 -
Mmm, I am definitely among like minded people here. I have been asked about six times today if we are going out for a meal for my birthday. When I say money is a bit tight and I would rather have plants for the garden I somehow dont think people believe me!
Love the idea of getting manure for your birthday Primrose!
Oh well, might go and do a bit of research of what sort of tree would be best. Hope the weather is kind to you tomorrow Kezlou - it wasnt too bad here today until about 4pm when I started to feel quite chilly.0 -
I got loads of seeds for xmas and a seed time, exactly what I wanted!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I love the idea of a load of manure for a birthday present. I was given a kenwood chef from OH one year and my older sis was given a kitchen sink. We were both delighted as at the time it was exactly what we wanted.SPC No 12 (was 287)

One of my most desired birthday presents from my OH was a trailer-load of horse manure for my vegetable patch!
So you basically got bought a load of old s*** that you actually wanted from your OH.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Yes ! The irony of it was that it was dumped on our driveway at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning. My OH was in bed with a back problem and I had to shovel the whole lot into a wheelbarrow and move it into the back garden in the hot sun before I could get my car out of the garage and driveway to get to work the next morning ! What's that old saying about Beware Greeks bringing gifts ?????0

I got 6 cubic metres of topsoil dumped in the way and had to wheelbarrow it to the back.
Got fit quick lol0 -
A tree has to be one of the best presents going!
I bought OH a Victoria plum tree for Christmas and my DD bought him a blueberry bush. He gave me a bird feeder which has given us both so much pleasure (my old mum calls it a 'timewaster'; she has a point - we spend ages standing at the kitchen window!).
We moved last summer and have a good sized garden for the first time and we're loving it. We managed to grow raspberries, grapes and herbs in our last (tiny) garden, and are really excited about this year's crops. I'll probably be back for advice from you knowledgeable lot!0 -

I'm so pleased for you! Years ago we moved from a house with a pocket handkerchief sized garden to our current one which has enabled me to have a decent sized vegetable patch, and I still feel in heaven about it. At our previous house we had an allotment for a while but our products were continually damaged or stolen by vandals and it was so disheartening. Now I can grow everything in safety, and just pop outside for 10 minutes to weed or water without having to get into a car with all my tools. It's much more time effective, and on a sunny day with the birds singing, I can think of few places where I'd rather be. Oh, the joy of picking your first lettuce, bean or ripe tomato!0 -
We moved into this property in August last year and the gardens have stayed fairly untouched as I have been studying solidly until Xmas time. I am now free(ish) to get out in the garden and am very excited. I took delivery of a new greenhouse on Friday but we had such a busy weekend we didn't get it up and the frustration is killing me
I did manage to go seed shopping with my son and i feel we may have gone a little overboard with the amount we bought :rotfl:but we had great fun. He keeps going on at his dad about getting the greenhouse built as well.
I have also ordered a couple of water butts as we are metered here and i refuse to use the hose.
I also need to point out that my OH is a landscape gardener which probably means that the greenhouse will stay in the box, my veg beds will never get built (we have loads of sleepers sat in the garden, ready and waiting) and I will probably be doing it all wrong lol. But it will be fun and whatever we grow will taste better, just because we have grown it. :j0
