https://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly has a Humax 26" LCD TV with 2 Freeview tuners for £962.33
  • What is the reason you would like to change your TV.
    1. The old one has just blown up.
    2. Because I can.
    3. My eyesight is fading (Bigger Screen).
    4. I want digital.
    5. Etc
Things to consider are: most TV's come with at least a two year warranty which can normally be extended upon, so the name on the front of the box doesn't really matter. What features do you really want? A lot of programmes are still transmitted in 4:3 aspect ratio including daytime TV. DID YOU KNOW THAT PLASMA SCREENS FADE AFTER A TIME AND NEED TO BE REFILLED; THEY DON'T TELL YOU THAT IN THE SHOP!! Start to think about the tuner in the TV, do you want analogue or digital. Are you going to be connecting a PC to the TV if so then LCD is worth considering. Want the cinema effect then what about a projector, remember if you want the best picture from it then you will need to lay out for a decent screen to project on (not cheap), consider where you are going to locate it, a north facing room is good, less chance of sun ruining your viewing pleasure.
Myself, I'm going to wait until my 32inch CRT goes pop then look around and I will be considering a LCD or projector.
  • BTW why do the Germans refer to screen size in inches?

This for our benefit. Most of their products are listed in cms.

Oh and their products are cheaper in the German Aldi's over the UK Aldi's.

tee hee, no m8 plasma tv's do not require refilling with gas.

    doh.

they do have a shelf life of between 10,000 and 30000 hours though. just like rear projection tv's.

that aldi price is a cracker, you should just check it out first, but with aldi you can buy and return so buy it, try it out and if you think it is crap get your money back.
what is the plural of moose?

  • i cant believe people still think plasm tv's need refilling, how ridiculous, if you are going to post make sure you know what you are talking about!!
  • That is true, plasma's do not need refilling, they just fade and thats it. In comparison LCD/DLP are longer lasting than plasma's.

The only drawback with LCD's is the dead pixel phenomena. But if you get more than 3 dead pixels the tv can be returned for a exchange.
The newer DLP's are becoming more user friendly so that any person can change the bulb for them after 10-20K hours. These can be cost £250-£350

    HTH
if i had known then what i know now
