Well then! Never knew I'd be posting in a thread like this!
In December 2011 a rep from Sapphire Studios was hounding the streets of my town and my partner was unfortunate enough to get lampooned into this scam, she filled in one of their competition forms and then didn't expect to hear from them.
Fast forward to Tuesday 31 January 2012 (yesterday evening) at 8.45pm we received a phone call from Tanya representing Orchid Studios telling my partner she had won the free makeover and photo session, obviously excited my partner was questioned very innocently about what she does and told what would be involved. It wasn't until money was involved that she put me on the phone, Tanya explained that there would eb a £49.99 deposit required to book two tickets for the session.
During this time I was rapidly googling them as the questions asked were very suspicious to me, soon enough I found this thread (and many others) but played along with Tanya on the phone. She said she'd ring me back tomorrow (today!) about 11.30 to get our final answer.
By today I had fully read this thread and primed with questions, Tanya phoned back and indeed she got a flack of questions about her company's director and their affiliation with Sapphire, which she denied endlessly "they were once in the same building as we are now" "where did you hear that?" etc etc. Curiously she couldn't tell me how a competition form by Sapphire got into Orchid's hands!
I was about to tell her I was an officer at Trading Standards or Consumer Direct, but I changed my mind and let her go, informing her we were not interested.
I am sorry to hear others had suffered this and got as far as the photoshoot. As you can imagine, my partner was very upset that she had been drawn into it, so I have promised her a proper doll-up and photoshoot now - so better get started on being a man of my word!
Thanks people for allowing this thread to exist, if I had not found it, I'm sure I would have been drawn in too!
Next step... reporting this to the local paper.0
