Hi
I have a credit card with Lloyds and for some reason it never comes up on my internet banking and when I ring the phone banking people it doesnt come up on their screens. It only comes up as existing on the credit card peoples computers, now ive been charged for not making my minimum payments. Can I refuse to pay on the basis that my internet banking didnt show me and ive previously rung in about this problem?
Thanks for any advice

I mean, not being funny here, but if you have a contarct to make certain payments, you've got to make them. It's your responsibility to make them on time, and just becuase your chosen method (ie internet banking) isn't up and running doesn't deiolve you of this responsibility.
Anyway, not make a direct debit up so you'ere covered?0 -
No, you cannot refuse to pay. You understood perfectly that there was a bill to settle. Just because it doesn't show on your internet banking is not a valid excuse to shy away from responsibility.0

I think it depends on whether or not they took reasonable steps to tell you about the bill. You don't say if they posted credit card statements to you (or if you have given them your correct address). If they have all your postal details and didn't send you a bill or email you a bill, then I think you might have grounds for claiming that as they didn't inform you of the minimum payment then you should get some compensation for any penalty fees.
If they did send you a postal bill, or offer to set up a direct debit to take the minimum payment out of your account each month then it would be much more difficult to show that you had no idea that you were meant to have made the payment.
Of course, you will need to pay it all off in the end and anything that hasn't been paid off will be sitting there collecting interest for the bank so it's going to be in your best interests to pay money off the card as soon as you can. Don't wait for them to tell you that you have to pay a certain amount, pay as much off as you can when you can!0 -
I'm so tempted to hit the spam button0

They didnt send me anything in the post either, I got nothing. I understand its a contract and I need to pay off but surely the fact they havent been sending me statements or even displaying the balance on my internet banking may be grounds for compensation?0 -

What's wrong with everyone tonight?
Seems like the heat has made everyone tetchy...
I'm perfectly cool and un-tetchy; just get fed up with the constant "this can't be my fault, I shouldn't have to pay, I should get compensation, etc etc etc".
Grow a pair for heaven's sake and take resposibility. Stop trying to cheat everyone else; because it isn't 'the banks' who will lose out; it is the law abiding people who feel some kind of responsibility to pay what they owe without cheating their way out of it.0 -

So are you saying you didn't spend any money on this card but yet it still run up a balance somehow? If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
Is it one of those paperless accounts where all transactions are online? In that case,I should think you have grounds for a complaint if you cannot access your account online.I would put a complaint in writing but in the meantime set ask for a direct debit mandate to set up a DD for the minimum payment.0
