:Tchocolate factory i love it so much!:j
  • you can get a canal boat from the mail box down to the chocolate factory if you like or do both seperately.

if you like asian stuff go on the bus to handsworth (day time!) as its worth a look around all the sari shops etc for sparkly stuff and the best part...the fruit and veg shops! stock piled with melons etc galore and very cheap. although not everyones cup of tea i quite like the drive through handworth and looking in all the pretty windows:rolleyes:

the botanical gardens are good especially the bonsai collection and sitting outside the tea rooms to enjoy the summer sun.

places to eat in central birmingham i would sugest round the canals as its nice watching the boats go by and not as hot and sticky as near the bullring etc.

imax cinema is sopposed to be brill joined with think tank.

there is a nice weatherspoons on broad street with a beer garden out the back also if you are on a budget and like weatherspoons, not so busy during the day.

the jewerrly quarter/china town etc worth a visit , also the custard factory has events on at night. al sorts realy to do, drayton manor not too far and you will waste a day easily thre if thats your thing or the safari park.

selriidges food hall if you go in for sushi ( i dont:eek:) , check out local bullring events on the site.
my fav place in birmingham is the museum (near central library) i am a fan of rosetti so it calms my soul looking at his pictures there and the kids enjoy it too (not the pics, the other stuff:rolleyes:)

if you do like museums then id suggest a visit there then cut through past the library across the square and down to the canal , none of it is far from each other and you can while away the day quite easily.
if you are stuck ill come and be your guide:p

Parking in Birmingham can be a real nightmare. Parking a little way out and taking the train in might be an option.

There are lots of good suggestions here. I may have missed Aston Hall (about six miles out, north -ish) although check that it has reopened and the museum with the pre-raphelites, which is on Chamberlain Square, basically go right along New Street from New Street Station.

Hope you have a lovely time. Sure you will.

Seeing a play at Stratford is amazing, and they have some matinees, I think on a Wednesday or a Saturday, if you preferred not to go at night.

Even if you think you don't like Shakespeare, you will probably love it.

We're staying in Yardley area in August and I was wondering if this is on a bus or train route into City Centre? Will it be cheaper for family of 4 to travel into the centre by public transport than park the car there? We want to visit Sea Life Centre and shop in Bullring.

Also the travelodge is meant to be by 'Spice Buffet', has anyone been? Do they cater for 2 fussy eaters??!! My 13 year old is the most fussiest person ever! Do they do cheaper meals for kids/small appetites? I begrudge paying adults prices for her to eat less than half a plate full of food!!

We're starting to look forward to our visit now and the kids have already started to badger us about going to Drayton Manor and Snowdome - so I think there on our list of places to visit during our weeks visit!
  • hi karen a family day saver ticket for west midlands is £6.50 and they do a train/bus ticket combo thing for about £7.50 too where you can travel quite far on it, i was looking at one of these to get to drayton manor myself actually as i dont have a car that fits me and 5 kids in. if you phone up the travel west midlands site they will give you more info as just getting on the bus and asking for the train/bus one can be confusing for the drivers as most are foreign and clueless tbh:rolleyes: (i say that as i got one once and the driver didnt have a clue, i had to tell him the price and hope for the best..thankfully he did the right one!

Does anyone know how much it costs for 2 adults to go to West Midland Safari Park in August, go on the Safari bus rather than take our own car but not go to the amusements? Will they let us go on the safari bus if we have our own car with us but we do not take it on the safari? Can we use Tesco clubcard deals?
Has anyone been to the cafe here, what is the food like?
