Tesco - Clubcard vouchers are worthless

Am really angry and disappointed with Tesco today.

I received my "summer promotional" Clubcard vouchers in the mail yesterday. Great - I thought - some more ££ in my pocket.

    But no no no.

Weekly vouchers are £4 off (with a "bumper" £6 voucher thrown in) on a £40 minimum spend.

Now I don't know about everyone else out there, but I am a single who lives on their own and I don't happen to have or spend £40 a week on groceries. It feels really unfair and I've sent them an email today telling them just that!

I appreciate they're trying to boost their turnover, but if you don't have the money to spend ... you don't have the money!

I agree - I got £9 off a £90 spend!! It's only me and DH, we spend about £30 a week in the supermarket. Had they put something closer to that sum (even if it was slightly more like 40 or 50) you could stock up on some things and use the coupon to save some money - but at triple your normal spending, I don't see how they think people can afford it?! these vouchers are just going to sit in the drawer, unused.

jamespir - as I said in my original post, the ones I received are a summer promotion and therefore fall outside the usual round of "earned" vouchers.

Perhaps everyone who received worthless (to them) vouchers should return them to Tesco with a covering note explaining why.

they are not worthless if you shop at tesco and intend to spend that much

perhaps to you they are but what i suggest you do is go shopping with a friend and pay as one transcation get a sub total when you have completed your shopping and then let them do theres
get your coupon off and then split the difference

robpw2 - that's precisely why I put "(to them)" in my post ... to qualify my statement.

There is no "perhaps" about them being worthless to me, and indeed other people who have posted.

I accept your proposal re shopping with a friend, but unfortunately - living in London - none of my friends live close enough for us to go on a joint grocery shopping trip. Ergo worthless.

I always buy online for my big shop and only use the store to buy the odd sandwich so having these vouchers are useless to me too!!! It costs me more in a taxi from my local Tesco than the delivery so I am not going to spend more in store and then spend more on getting it home!!!

The ones I received were £2 off £20 - and they could be used online as well as in store? Might be worth checking your voucher again.

If you regulary spend say £30 in tesco store they have targeted you as a customer to try and get you to spend £40 in their store each week, even with the coupon they will still be making a minimum of an extra £6 of you.

They'll be *taking* an extra £6 off you, but certainly not *making* £6.

Tescos have pretty lean profit margins on most items, so giving £4 off a £40 shop probably does away with a large chunk of the profit they'd have got from a regular £30 shop, if not actually working as a loss leader.

I think *most* people who spent £30 could find something they needed for £6 to put in the cupboard, freezer etc, then they could just buy themselves a tub of icecream to eat on the bus back with the "free" £4...or whatever.

The £9 off £90 is a little tougher to use, sure - but plenty of people will have parties every so often and need to stock up on booze, they'll want to get a new TV, or hoover, or laptop...Or they'll just decide to stock up on the cheap wine deal on here, or just buy themselves a years' worth of pants, or washing up liquid, or fags...who knows.

Anyway, if you can't actually use your vouchers, what have you lost?

Tesco don't give them out for fun, they're there to make money. Some people will be able to take advantage of them, some people won't. Doesn't seem heartbreaking either way.

Nope, well the bumper one is defo in store, it's sitting in my purse, will check the others when I get home. I never spend that much in one shop in a store but can easily online, this is why they put it as store only, seems everyone has different combinations...

I wouldn't mind some of these vouchers even the £9 off £90 will do but Mr T probably knows i'm loyal anyway so doesn't need to reel me in

If one is rich enough to travel to a supermarket by bus then one is not too poor to spend £40.
