OS Daily Thur 2nd July 09

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thurs 2nd July. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning.
All is well down here, trying to rain, but not much about. Certainly could use a drop for the veggies and flowers.
A pottering sort of day with work at 1300pm.
Trying to save money... but failing, got to buy fuel for the car, and groceries today. Where does it all go to?
Have a good one.....

Morning N9eav and all to follow
I dont know where the money goes either, I am keeping a spending diary but most of it is needs not wants.
Very warm here already, DS has sports day this morning so will be taking lots of extra water. This afternoon will be doing paperwork then after school we have a meeting there about next years school trip. Dont know much other than it will cost £310. £40 deposit needs to be paid today - luckily have a quidco payment going in the a.c.
Not sure whats for dinner as its another hot one, menu plan has been changed completely this week.
JackieO & Hermione - hope yesterday's appointments went well.
Tiredmum - glad the school didnt perm exclude DS but I agree a new start would be good.
& Belated Anniversary wishes for Pippa :beer:0 -
morning all
the weather has been so hot here too but at least we are getting thundery showers at times to keep the garden watered
last day of school up here today am on holiday too but doing a summer playscheme two days a week
dinner will be fresh herring, new potatoes and salad
so glad all went well for you Jackie and that your dd is improving
hugs to tiredmum
Penny-Pincher isnt feel too great just now so hugs to you x0 -
Mornng all,
Another nice day here, I cant remember the last time it rained, we will be on a hose pipe ban soon
Off to work again today its very busy at the moment and the time flies past.
Scampi (bogof) and oven chips for tea, with peas and sweetcorn, nice and easy, I have had two cues off of my plant which were delish, and there are a load more comming :T
Kathy I loved the photos of your place in France on FB, it is very beautiful, and I envy you living there.
Quick swipe round this morning washing is up to date.
Jackie I am so pleased the news was good for you :T:T
DD has her sports day today, I have told her to smother herself in suncream as last year she got badly sunburnt
Have good days all, and keep out of the sun xx0 -
Morning everyone.
I don't know where the money goes either  I don't want pots and pots of money I'd just like a little more than I have nowMy needs are quite small really, easily pleased.
DS has a "sports" day this morning. Not sure how that's going to pan out since the are all very young but we'll see. Not expecting much from my DS. He doesn't like large groups of people etc so am expecting him to be the one in tears like the Christmas concert
Weather is lovely but could do with a couple of degrees less. DD room was 28 degrees last night, even with a fan on. I am not sleeping great with the heat and it's cooking my lettuce at the front of my house (south facing) I think I might have to move them to the back garden before they get ruined.
H has the day off to see the sports day so will try and get him to cut the lawn.
BM is on already (I can't keep up with how much bread we seem to eat) Not much washing or ironing which is a good thing as I am too hot and tired to do much. Veggie chilli last night was delish. Not sure about tonight as I am finding the heat is putting me off most things.
Have a good day all OS or not.
PS. I haven't read yesterday thread but I take it from this mornings replies that Jackie your appointment went well yesterday :TI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -
Hi everyone.
Jackie - so glad it's all going well for you.
(((Hugs))) to PenPin
Redruby - thank you. I'll try and keep the photos updated as we progress on the house. Not much going on this week because DH is working elsewhere - got to keep the pennies coming in!
Well, all my chores are done. Washing is on the line - it's so hot here it dries in a couple of hours. Bread dough is rising, and salad and pots are prepped for dinner tonight. Yet another salad but don't feel like eating anything too heavy in this weather. I know it's the same in the UK at the moment. I keep thinking about my pregnant DIL while it's so hot. I carried DS1 during a hot summer, and it was not very comfortable.
Well, my mail redirection brought me my newsletter from the Co-op, complete with £45 worth of vouchers to spend in there, so we shall be using them to stock up on things when we come back to the UK in August. There's quite a few things we miss out here, although we are discovering new ones, too. I'm still working my way through the 150 Oxo cubes I brought over here when we moved.
Good luck to all those youngsters enduring their school sport's day today!
Well, off to do some proper work!

Good morning
Well, the last 24 hours have been a bit irritating financially. First, my car broke down in the local car park. Good old RAC came out and had to replace the battery. Then I collected DD1 at 2am from Salisbury (she's just returned from holiday) only to be told she'd had her bag, driving licence and new camera (birthday present last week from me) stolen. She's also not well - chesty cough, and just burst into tears when I picked her up. Felt so sorry for her as she said she had felt homesick and not enjoyed her holiday.
Anyway, she 's sleeping now so am hoping she feels better when she wakes.
Another hot day, can't wait to finish work as I then start 6 days annual leave.
Have a good day all,
ETA:
JackieO - glad the results were good
PenPin - hope you feel better soon.

Mornin all
Its hot here already but there is a slight breeze so maybe it will cool down a little later
I bought some 100% Cotton sheets from Makro before Christmas with some money I had for my birthday in Nov, (is that sad or what)??
the old ones are so thin now but they must be 10yrs old.
As its so nice out I washed them last night and they are on the line now,
WM doing its stuff again, then 1 more load and its all done, just the ironing then
I'm trying to get everything done before we go away tomorrow,
crumpets for Brekkie,
Lunch
Dinner will be pasta-bake and salad,I will do 2 and take one with us, it will save buying food out
kjsam - how awful, hope DD feels better after a good sleep
Kathy - Know what you mean I carried DS1 during a hot summer. I am not on facebook so I cant see your photos
PenPin - ((hugs))
JackieO - how is DD today?
BitsyBeans - money is getting tighter and I dont know if its me thinking it but my food shopping bill seems to have rocketed just lately and I am not buying any more, and the price of fuel
Thanks Essex-Girl
Hermoine - hope all went well for you yesterday.
WM finished so will go get it on the line, and I must fill the bird bath up they love a quick dipand need to sweep up outside we seem to have a lot of leaves out there
Have good days all and do as the Australians do "slip, slap slop" and be sun safe

Too hot to cook - opened the fridge door and stood in front of it until the fridge beeped at me. However much I huff and puff and 'glow' in this weather I love it, so much improved from dark and cold and wet December - April!
So, a very MSE day, cold drinks, salad and not much time spent in the kitchen. Have heard that a hot drink cools the body and cold drinks heats the body up so perhaps it's tea all round?
Chicken out of freezer ready for evening meal (salad leaves and chicken) and that's all folks!!0 -
Morning all.
JackieO - glad all went well! Enjoy your celebratory G&T
Moiliere - your photos are great
I am hiding in a darkened office with alll the blinds drawn! I'm lucky in a sense that the sun doesn't hit me until the early evening, but it's still pretty sweltering in here
Marking again for me today... it feels never ending
Pasta for tea (well, for OH anyway. I'm happy with a sandwich!)
Got people coming round tomorrow so OH is tidying (his friends, his mess)
Must get washing powder and phone the garage today. Had words with the insurance company yesterday. £20 auto-renewal fee... I think not
have a good day all, cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Not as muggy here today which is nice. DS3 is on his induction day at his new high school so he was very excited this morning. DS2 is back from his mentoring trip this evening, no doubt tired & with loads of washing
Not sure whats for tea yet as it may change with the weather.
((hugs)) to anyone who needs one & stay safe in the sun.0
