expired M & S credit voucher... what can I do?

I was issued a credit voucher from Marks and Spencer last year for £40. It is in the form of a receipt printed from the till and for this reason it was not obvious in my purse. I realised unfortunately just 2 days after the date that it had expired. Gutted!
I have emailed M&S head office to explain, I apologised for inconvenience and asked if they could help me to redeem the voucher.
I was surprised to receive a reply email (after waiting ten days) informing me that they will not replace it.
I thought that M&S would have a much more leiniant view on this, It's not like I'm asking for the cash. They normally pride themselves on good customer service and this has really annoyed me.
Is there anything I can do? Do I have any rights in this matter?

Reply with a sob story (you intended to use it last week but...), and tell them that as they have such an excellent reputation for having the best customer service on the high street, would it be possible to have a 7 day extension so you can spend it this weekend?
If they reply again saying "no", then tell them you are very disappointed in them, and shall be giving them a shocking review online, and sharing your poor experience with others.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Go into the store and spend it. Stand your ground at the till point. They will accept it.0

I have sent another email, really polite and saying I have a young baby and these vouchers printed on receipt paper are so easy to mislay (both true). Hopefully they will reconsider.
I did take it to the customer service desk in store but she would not help.
I am surprised with M&S not being a bit more helpful.
Thanks for your feedback, this is my first try on the forum!!0 -

he he,didn't know that.Even better then if you position yourself at a very busy bank of tills,on a saturday!!0 -
i don't think you'll have much luck. when they swapped to the printed till credit notes all staff were told to tell customers " and it will expire on xxxx date" and as it is clearly printed on the receipt i don't think you have much of a case tbh.
and yes i did work there on the CSD desk and yes it is a shame they changed from the pre-printed ones but i believe the reason was they were getting forgeries thro the tills.Nonny mouse and Proud!!
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!!

Alternatively they will call security and have you escorted from the store. :rolleyes:Gone ... or have I?0 -
Uh oh! That would be more likely knowing my luck.
Was moaning about this to a friend today and she knows the manager of a different M&S so am going to get in touch with her and see if there's anything that can be done.
It's an outrage!0 -
If you received a credit voucher rather than a refund then you have already been treated more than fairly. It suggests your original reason for rejecting a purchase was just a whim on your part and your consumer rights have already been exceeded.0

I've got a similar problem (credit vouchers issued for two tops I took back ages ago and I'm pretty sure I was given a credit vouchers instead of a refund as I did not have the receipt). I tried to use the vouchers at weekend and was told I couldn't as they were stopped at Easter and the very helpful girl said they hadn't been printed for 2 years. I have e-mailed the customer service and have basically been told "tough" they haven't issued them for 3 years and that credit vouchers are above my statutory rights (eh?) and are classed as goodwill. I pointed out that I have not had the vouchers for 3 years, I am a regular shopper and did not see any prominently displayed signs at the cash tills I stood at (or else I'd have used them before wouldn't I?) Anyone got any advice? But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0
