Reclaiming PPI from GE money/Santander. Help!?

Hi
Can anybody help?
Who do I write to? Do you write to the store or the Head Office of Santander somewhere?
I took out my Debenams store card in 2001 or 2002 I think and I was sold PPI but when I tried to cancel it months after I was told I couldn't. I felt as if I couldn't say no. I was a university student at the time and not in full time employment.
Do I have a case? I've been paying PPI for about 8 years I think but don't know how I can find out how much I paid etc and really don't know where to start despite having all of these letter templates.
Any help anybody can give me would be great..

Hi there, this is the one of the letters I have just sent on behalf of my mum (Evans, Burton and DP) - I got the address from the reply to the SAR that I sent to GE Capital and they told me to use it for further correspondence. Not had a reply from this yet but only sent last week. Obviously you would have to change bits to be relevant to your case but this letter is identical to the one I sent Argos and they paid up straight away without question.

Dear Sir or Madam,
Evans Account Number : *****************
- I was unemployed (have always been a homemaker and have never indicated otherwise) when the insurance was added and therefore there is no way I would ever have been eligible to claim on the policy, this should have been clear to the salesperson at the time and the insurance never added.
- The actual nature of this product was never fully explained to me and I thought it was just part of the agreement and was not optional. My daughter discovered this and this is why I am making the claim now.
Unless you can satisfactorily justify to me that the policy was fair and reasonable I am requesting a full refund of all premiums, and subsequent interest on these payments, that I have paid to date. As I believe I have been deprived of this money I also expect 8% statutory interest, the amount a court would award, to be added to each payment made.
My daughter, ***********, is helping me in this matter and I give you authority to talk to her about this claim, if required, on **********.
I look forward to a full and prompt response to this letter and for the matter to be concluded within eight weeks or I shall be contacting the Financial Ombudsman to investigate my complaint.0 -
did any of this apply to you?
"If you don’t have the paperwork
If you want to check the costs and don’t have the paperwork, send a letter to your lender, requesting a full breakdown of your account, specifically including the cost of the insurance. If you ended your agreement over six years ago, your lender may no longer have this information as it only has to keep records for six years. If no one has a record of the account, a reclaim is unlikely to be worth pursuing."0 -

Aargh! Just wrote a long note with regard to my experiences with Santander but somethings happened and its disappeared!! Anyway, the address that Santander have given me is -

Hope you have better luck than I had!If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.;)0 -
thank you!
What were your experiences?
I went to Debemnams to get an application form for a store card but they wouldn't give me one..
They told me that the way PPI is billed has changed since a year ago and you'd pay £3 a month if you'd bought something. This covered you against the product being reduced in price for 100 days. After 100 days they no longer charged you the fee per month.
Now I'm certain that I used to pay x pence for every pound I had on my store card balance, and I've been paying about 20 to 30 a month for this PPI for the last 8 years. I asked to cancel it years ago and was told I couldn't (I've always had a balance of about £1200 on the card that I can't pay off due to the interest and this PPI).
Anybody know if I have a case?0 -

I actually received a letter today from Santander in response to the 2nd letter I sent to them - They deny mis-selling PPI and because of the time lapse were not covered by FOS so have stated that if I am still unhappy - I need to contact the FLA.
To cut a long story short-
I had 2 store cards around 2003. I applied for these in store. One of my arguments for being mis-sold PPI was that both sales clerks' actually filled out my application and put crosses where I was to sign, one of which was PPI. (although this is unclear on agreement). I naively signed both places but PPI was never discussed. Santander today, basically say that I had every chance to read agreement and not sign at PPI if I didn't want it -
If it had been brought to my attention at the point of sale, I certainly wouldn't have signed.
Anyway I am still going to pursue this through FLA although am unsure how successful I will be. I have read other threads in relation to FLA and many people have been unsuccessful with them. I believe Santander are using stalling tactics because I do believe I have a good case.If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.;)0 -
if you read the templates supplied on this site it says to ignore their first letter.
It does sound like stalling tactics.
Did they respond to your first letter?
Who are the FLA and FOS?0 -

My first letter from them more or less said the same as the second although 2nd letter is more detailed. The FOS is the 'Financial Ombudsman Scheme' and because my PPI was sold prior to 14th January 2005, I am not covered by them. I need to contact the FLA (Finance and leasing Association) who I don't hold out much hope for!If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.;)0 -

Sometimes the fos considers GISC complaints too. Not sure about ABI though.0 -

How do I find out if Santander/GE Money were covered by the GISC?
In the final response letter from them - they said if I was still unhappy to contact FLA - unsure what to do now!If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.;)0 -
It sounds like we don't have a case then, or, perhaps they are blinding us with science so to speak so that we don't go any further.
What do you think?
Can anybody else help?
I currently pay £1.50 for every £100 on my store card balance, which at the moment, I am embarrassed to say, is about £2000, so it's costing me £30 a month :-(0
