    Thanks for your replies everyone.
I have never, ever given anyone negative feedback and don't really want to start now. What I really want is for the seller to deliver another one of these items to the requested address. They are a power seller and have lots of these items.
I can do very little with the item delivered to me as it is large, heavy and bulky and I am physically unable to get it to a Post Office.
I can quite understand that they would not want to deliver to an unregistered address but what I cannot understand is why they failed to respond to my communications and tell me that was the case. I could then have made some sort of alternative arrangements with them.

From what everyone has said I assume there is nothing I can do now?

    Er, no. You did receive.

Then which one should I have gone for?
I have never had a dispute before

There did not seem to be any dispute title that covered the situation so i went for not received.
Do you think that is the right one?

There's no dispute to be opened, as the mistake was yours.

Even if return the item, you'll still have to pay return postage, so you might as well just send it on to your dad instead, and apologise his present is late.

If it arrived with you a day after you bought it, then why didn't you send it straight onto your dad?

I'm usually the first to suggest leaving a negative for rubbish sellers, but in this case, there is no mistake on the seller's behalf. The mistake was 100% yours!!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It's pointless opening a dispute - on what grounds?!

'Notes' written with PP payments are notoriously hard to spot. You should have changed the address on your PP account. As the other have said, the seller is in the right here - they would have given up all their seller protection to send to the gift address.

Be reasonable, and close the dispute.

    Thanks for your reply.
I did not know they are notoriusly difficult to spot. How would I as a buyer have known that? As I said I sent the communication through Paypal so I assumed thay would receive the message at the same time as the payment. Is that unreasonable?

I am physically unable to get to a post office which is one of the reasons I buy a lot on EBay
  • A courier will pick up from your home, so there would be no need for you to go anywhere. I'm sure these can be arranged fairly cheaply. Haven't had to sort one out for a while, so I don't know what the cheapest is currently. No doubt someone else will be able to point you in the right direction.

It's quite easy to change the delivery address in paypal. That would have been the correct way of doing things.

The seller has done things by the book. You haven't.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but you seem not to be understanding that it's not the seller's fault.

  • I agree.
I mean, by all means mark the seller down on communication, but the fact is that you bought something and you've now got it.

The seller has done his/her job, so why should they have to send you another? You got what you paid for, but you want more...

you should have messaged the seller before buying
once it was confirmed they were willing to send to that address then you could have purchased

That is absolutely the right one for a scam artist to go for.

Do you actually understand what 'item not received' means?

Sorry it's hot and sometimes I really can't stay nice and polite.
