Thanks Lilo. There's no way we'd be able to borrow that kind of money from anyone, lovely though they are. They've already helped us out so much and I wouldn't be able to stand asking for more help. We've spoken to a couple of mortgage people today and it seems guarantor mortgages are assessed according to earnings and not on assets, which isn't so great for us. That said, it should still be possible and we'd be on roughly 5% interest. Maybe by the time we take on the mortgage next April/May, things may have improved further
Best to draw a line then and move on, hope you enjoyed itThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Connextions people came to visit my DS but he was out. They have said that we can apply for Jobseekers allowance - Hardship for him, which would give him £40 a week. If he goes on an e2e course he would get £30 a week. Possibly I could get an extention of my CB for about 16 weeks.??? So I am going to have to investigate that one.
My evening meal was the remains of last nights pasta heated with a pasta sauce mix, from Approved foods. DS is probably staying out so I didnt have to wait for him, but there is probably enough left over for him if he does. (Or seconds for me later on if I get hungry).
Been sewing or sewing related work today. Hope tomake a cushion cover this evening, and do the cravats during the day. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I've been doing some sums this evening, and I really really need to stop spending, and try to get more money coming in from somewhere! I've been spending a lot this month, I'm not going to make my target NSDS for July, and its stupid, unnecessary spending which I don't need to do  so I'm annoyed with that. So, for August, I'm gonna ask if I can have a few more hours at work, if there are any spare ever, and I need to stop spending money. I think I'm going to stop taking my purse with me, as I have to walk through town to get to work, and seem to be tempted by everything and anything at the moment. THIS HAS TO STOP!!
So yes, that's my plan for then. I'm going to have a hunt for some things to put on Ebay at the weekend - any other suggestions anybody?

BB - I'm glad your OH has found more work!
SL - Hope the interview went well!
Bails - I hope you can find a way to make your dreams work out whether for this cottage or another in the future...
I will be eternally greatful for my parents being guarantors (sp?) for my 1st mortgage (for 25% I think). I was 18 () and a student with no particularly regular income! I still don't know how the Bank agreed- it was all done on my parents income and there was a rather tense period of time when they weren't sure it was going to be quite enough. I think in the end it came down to my parents mortgage being on a tiny interest rate as they both worked for a bank at the time so it was just "affordable" even if the multiples were a wee bit short. It was assesed as if they would be paying for the mortgage although they weren't and didn't.
My flat had 3 bedrooms so I got 2 flatmates which gave me enough to pay the mortgage. My accomodation costs as long as I had 2 flatmates were basically my buildings/contents insurance + annual fuars (sp?) association fee (~£110) + anything that needed fixing (it was only ~8 yrs old when I got it so was only minor things)!I rented it out for a while when I moved away from there (and moved back in with my parents after going travelling) and eventually sold it to buy my current flat. If they hadn't helped me then I could never have afforded to buy my do-upper ("compact" 1 bed) flat in Edinburgh due to Edinburgh's silly inflated house prices. I could only just afford it as I had paid off a fair bit of the origional mortgage and house prices in that area had risen a bit over the ~8 yrs I owned it. Had they not helped in the way they did, I would not have been able to afford to buy my flat now even with falling house prices.
The flat was a bit of a millstone at times though... it was rather depressing to use my 21st birthday money to pay for having the hot water tank element replaced! It did mean I've had to be rather financially responsible/ budget obsessed since I hit adulthood and have never rented anywhere other than Uni halls in 1st year. :rotfl: I'm also blessed that my parents trusted me enough at such a young age to not !!!! it all up! :T
SF - ((((hugs)))) What is done is done, you can't change the past, don't beat yourself up about it. Onwards and upwards (or should that be downwards spendingwise:rotfl:). I'm going to be at least 1 day short for my NSD challenge as I forgot my lunch today so had to buy some  - there is not enough days left in the month for me to make it. Good luck with your ebaying... I still haven't got up courage to try selling there.
Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Hi everyone,
Well, I made it through the interview, it was all very pleasant and the people were nice, but you never can tell. I might hear what's happening tomorrow, I do hope so because I hate waiting.
I am going to make some dinner for tomorrow night now, meatballs in tomato sauce, I hope they turn out okay!
At the interview the candidate that was in before me drew me a dirty look.:rotfl:I just smiled at her and told the agency guy, what a cheeky b***h. It was funny though, not worth getting uptight over it.
Speak later. xx0 -

Hi Bails, I am glad you have had a chance to chat about it - having re-read my post my % were totally shot to pieces - having a senior moment. The good thing is that you are not looking to take it out at the moment, and the banking crisis may be in a different place when you are looking. The availablility of 90% mortgages back into the market is a big step forward. I would try and have as much deposit as you reasonably can, and see what the situation is when you are ready. You will be amazed what can be achieved, and a good broker with contacts is worth his weight in gold. Just make sure when you go ahead that you understand exactly how the deals work, and what happens when they come to an end.
SF, I feel your pain re the spending - I am ignoring July altogether and fast forwarding to August. Trouble is, with DS on holiday, this is easier said than done. I definately need to take him out of the growbag, he will be costing me a fortune with all the new school gear he is going to need, although MIL is buying school shoes, which is a big help and I have already bought tops and jumpers.
Glad the internew went well skint lynne, Obviously the girl before you had mucked up her interview, and recognised your star quality!

Hi all,
SL - Fingers crossed for the job x
DDraig - Loving the idea of Frugonia, the Game (although then I would probably NEVER get off the computer!)
Have been reading but forgot to take notes, so (((hugs))) to all that need them, congrats, commiserations etc
Off to a fancy party tomorrow night, bought a nice dress that can be dressed up/down and I will wear it again. It was only £32, so I am pleased.
Have done a freezer inventory, now just sorting my meal plan/shopping list for next month, but MySupermarket is being interminably slow
Trying to read Weezl's USDA challenge but I keep on losing my place! Inspired by this, I have started costing out my recipes (also on my 101) - now I just need to get them printed.
I switched to the new tariff on Tesc0 Mobile, which triples your credit, plus I get 500 free texts a month and half price calls/texts to my 5 favourite numbers, so that is particularly frugal. Plus I applied for the free Orange sim card, through Quidco
For some reason, I have agreed to work on Saturday, but the weather is meant to be pants anyway so I guess I am not that bothered.
Think that is about it, the less said about my total the better tbh!We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
Saved a bit on power tonight when the overhead cables got hit by lightning. Wee man in white van came and fixed problem within an hour of the storm ending and I still managed workout 2 of my C25K challenge, albeit clad in waterproofs until it got too warm.
Hope you get good news tomorrow about the job, SL
Catch you all tomorrow.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
