Stupid question from me - and relates to either camping venue
I see they'd both involve a ferry to get to them.... would I need some kind of photo id to get the ferryIt's not something I've ever come across before, and can't remember what (if anything) what my parents used for us all to get to the Shetland Isles (in 1975, 1977 and 1979)

But Nyk's area is much less driving for me than either of the others -- and I'm not good on ferries so that certainly has my voteCheryl0 -
Never thought about it to be honest but it is still British Isles so not sure if you would need id or not
Ferry prices not so frugal though I don't suppose, maybe we would be better sticking on the mainland when we do meet up

just googled and answer is yes0 -
Ach, Birmingham is central for daan saaff,:rotfl:
I think that the Southwest of Scotland is a better option for folks coming all the way from say, Brighton (BB) or bails from Bath. It's just a suggestion as I really don't mind either way.
It takes me around 2 and a half hours to get to Nyk's place, and I think it would be around 7 to drive to John O' Groats to get a ferry to the Orkneys. It's an adventure wherever it will be, now I'm really going to bed.
I am like a naughty child every night, because I say I'm away to bed around 3 or 4 times.:rotfl:
Nite nite this time. xx0 -
Hi Everyone
I been lurking for a while and find you so helpful. I have tried growing my own fruit and vegetables but all I have are 4 strawberries and 4 very strangly shaped peppers.
OH has acquired a second hand green house so maybe I may have better luck next year. I have recently bought an apple tree and a vine, so hopefully I will get some green fingers!!
Thank you for your inspiration.

just googled and answer is yesWell that adds extra expense on for me - would either have to pay for a passport that I'm highly unlikely to use for a trip abroad before it expires ( ) or to convert my driving license to a photo one for no other reason than getting the photo card !!!

Good luck with the vegetable growing next year, manythings grow much better with the help of a greenhouse, and it is great for starting off your seeds. Small stepsand don't worry what the veg looks like it is going to be in a salad r something not a beauty contest:)

Does anyone have any idea how I can find some interest rates on guarantor mortgages, seem to be drawing a complete blank?
Thanks.
Bails, you will be able to get the normal mortgage rates, the guarantor doesnt affect the mortgage itself, it just guarantees to make the payments if you default. They need to be able to afford the whole mortgage on their own income and would be liable to make the full payment in the event of you not making it. They have no ownership rights to the property.
I know there are a different type available as well, where parents deposit a lump sum with the organisation which offsets the risk, but I do not know anything about these - although my guess is that these would be at normal rates too.
I am going to slink back to lurkdom cos I have spent far too much and I am currently a disgrace to frugaldom. I have a strict budget and I AM sticking to it this month. I AM sticking to it this month .......

Maslowe. You will learn as you grow stuff. If you can get hold of a good gardening book from the library it will help and I found the amateur gardener magazine helpful in the early days and they do free seed sometimes. There are others but I cant remember the names. One looks like a newspaper.
For anyone who likes to make their own cards
I found this site tonight. I love making 3d cards and there are some very nice ones to download and print.

I made 12 cards yesterday , not all 3d and have prepared another five for putting together. I am trying to get ahead and have left the theme blank so I can put a sticker on later such as thank you or happy anniversary or something.
Very frugal as I have had all the stuff for some time.

ORKNEY - there are other ferry companies and the cheapest way is a bus from inverness with a different ferry company who take you over as a foot passenger - dont think you need photo id on the other ferries just the main one and as you know a tame local there is chance of either a lift or just getting the bus service upto KW........
ferry companies are northlink, john' o groats ferry (bus and ferry package), pentland ferries - CHEAPER THAN northlink
Oops no manners, hello (lurker) here - waves HI - this is the naughty orkney lurker
if you are seriously interested SM can nudge me and i can find out more for you but islands tend to be difficult to get too and the cost of travel isn't very cheap
re northlink - We also get a friends and family discount scheme for upto 6 families a year which gives a 30% discount...........and I'd be happy to endorse six 'famlies'
and then the foot passenger price is not so bad - free accommodation
Although if camping - you can wild camp anywhere in scotland (with certain restrictions but not many) for free anywhere for one night
which is prretty frugal if combined wiht some foraging activity which may fill some freezers in a good location or something?
excuse my rambles I am tired
waves helloTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
