This will be a great way of storing batch cooked meals/sauces/stews/pates etc without having to use the freezer, so saves on electricity costs too :D plus there isn't the worry about losing lots of foodstuffs in the case of powercuts.
Presuming it arrives safely I can see my pressure canner being very useful in frugaldom as there is only so much you can preserve without using one of these.
Same thoughts here. It is not cheap to start up but gets cheaper year on year because you only buy jars once and only need the flats (inner lids) after that. Also once they are done they don't use anymore fuel till you come to heat them and in a power cut you could probably heat with a tealight. I have seen such things somewhere for heating food on the table.
this site shows they use spaghetti sauce type jars because of the difficulty of getting kilner type. Great idea for recycling.

Sorry this is the one with the recycled jars.
I have just been reading about the boiling water method on there and she says to pop the pop top down when you take the jars out and cool. That should never be done.! If the jars are sealed correctly they will pop down on their own. If you do it yourself you will never know they are not sealed until you come to open them and that would be very dangerous.

    Hi guys!

Kittikins, sorry, I meant Mooloo when I mentioned the mortgages, memory fails me on who wrote what most time but I do try my best, hones. :o

SFT Byeeeeeeeee, have a fantastic time and get loads of piccies for the blog so we can keep checking :D

SM, Grandma & all others who knew what a pressure canner was... :rotfl:I just found out and had it so wrong! :rotfl: I was imagining a huge, heavy machine that filled tin cans and sealed them and thought how expensive they must be. I am pleasantly surprised and will freely admit that if it's preserving you're into, then the canner is an absolute must. (I compare my definition of 'expensive' with my own previous experiences of expensive hobbies and now wish I'd been the type that filled kitchen cupboards rather than filled stables. :rotfl:) I'm still a bit confused over why it's called a pressure canner when it's for jars and can only guess that it's because a pressure jarrer sounds a bit daft. :o

HS now out cutting grass, so I best go start moving the clippings to bank up more potatoes. Catch you all laters, SM - hopefully see you later. :D

Well I've had an email from the university about accommodation this afternoon, so its all really happening now! I need to send off a cheque for £250 immediately, so I can confirm the contract, so at least I'll know I have a room for the year :D

Another NSD today, as I've not been anywhere. I have cleaned and hoovered out my car, and have done some washing, and am now just sat relaxing in front of the tv. I need to clean the bathroom in a bit, and also change the bed. I've been browsing in my room for more things to put on Ebay, so I can maybe get a few more pennies in the pot for uni/general stuff as I seem to be constantly spending my wages before I do anything. I've got plenty of hours the next two weeks, which is handy, but the money is already assigned to different places as soon as it hits my account :( I also need to start saving for when I get to uni, as i think the first few weeks will be expensive ones, and I just don't have the funds at the moment. I am going to have to really really be strict with my spending over the summer, and really not indulge myself at all.

    I hope you're all having a good day :)

    sf xx

  • Hello Everyone

Although I have not posted in a while I still check in everyday to catch up with the frugal going on's. I have time to post at the moment as we are confined to house with swine flu (not me at the minute thank goodness)

I'm sorry to say that I have lost track of the budget :o, so I will be starting again from the 1st of August. My budget will be all in for £1000 a month (this does not include mortgage overpayments)

I have just booked the tickets for my graduation :j:jwhich is in September. I will need to find the money for the cap and gown out of my August budget. I will post up my August budget later to get the opinions of the masters (thats you NYK, CW and SM)

Hope everyone is enjoying their day

    Hi,

need a bit of advice, please. I sold sth on Am@z0n and now the seller claims he hasn't received  it but it was sent by First Class so I can't really track it. Has anyone experienced sth like that and what should I do. I afraid that he maybe uses that to get his money back despite having received the parcel.

    Thank you very much

Did you get a reciept of postage? If not, I'm not sure what you can do. Is there anyway of checking through Amazon if the customer has done this before?

Sorry I'm not much help. Hope you get it sorted.

Yes, I got the receipt but not sure if it counts (Am@z0n wasn't a great help when I phoned) because it obviously doesn't show what I sent and I don't have a tracking number.:confused: Am@z0n's website says it's the most customer-friendly solution to refund but I'm reluctant to do so.
