The last time I went there, although the day was great, sitting in traffic queues for almost 3hrs just to get out of the place made me never want to return.

Poxy little country lane with thousands of cars trying to funnel through. No wonder so many people were breaking out the Bar-B-Ques in the car park when it all finished (I thought they were all weird!!)

    Never again

    Really?!

that's amazing. When I went to F1 2 years ago it took 2hours to get out!

I'm off there this weekend so this thread is great.

Sadly not for me. Traffic at Silverstone was still rather poorly managed this year.

We were O.K on the way in on Friday- yes hit a jam just a mile off the M1 on the A43- slow moving due to roundabouts at Towcester. Police were there but didn't even stop A5 traffic to try and help pull A43 traffic through which was crazy- just sat looking at queues from the bikes. In the end, I think I left M1 at 9.35am and was inside Silverstone by 10.45am. BBC Radio Northampton did report when we were sitting in the queue that it was backing up to the M1 around 10am, made worse by muppetes who still thought they'd get right through the road even though it said you wouldn't on about a million sides. Way in was largely fine- police should have helped with traffic at the roundabouts however.

Getting out was a problem simply due to car park management being frankly incompetant. I left just after the GP2 qualifying finished and returned to my car which was parked near the A43 and Dadford Road junction in the field. We joined the back of the queue to leave and barely moved. Nobody was controlling the single lane exit with two lanes- it was a mess! We kept nudging forward, until a steward came and started to try and get it under control. Part of the problem was so many had left cars were cutting inbetween what were parking spaces to push in down the bottom, and people were moving the barriers/ tape to exit. Total mess. Once we got down to the exit it was fine- free flowing but heavy near Towcester Town Centre and reached the M1 just 15minutes after leaving Silverstone but 1hour 15mins after getting to the car. The car park management was shambolic- as a traffic engineer I understand queues and can understand sitting in a queue- but one that shows some sign of progress not a car length every 5 mins and a free for all because of poor management.

Silverstone is vastly improved and the circuit is good. Access roads around the area are good, but they still need to work on some aspects particularly getting vehicles safely out of car parks.
