Abbey Zero Card - how long does it take?

I have not got a credit card so I applied for an Abbey Zero card 21 days ago because it was recommended as a good one to use abroad. I have heard nothing at all from Abbey. Rang them twice and they just say it is being processed and I should hear in 7 to 10 days (that was today). I need a credit card to use now. Should I just cut my losses and get one somewhere else?

Well, you have to be patient and give them some time to come to a decision. It does take some time for most companies. If you make too many applications within a short period of time,it could affect your credit rating. However,I have to say My experience with Shabbey has been shambolic and I would avoid it like the plague !

Did you submit your application online or by phone?

I've little recent experience of Abbey but, from feedback here, it's best to apply in branch ;)
Online applications are often subject to long delays, apparently

We applied in branch, as advised here. Visited Saturday and today received a call to say have been accepted and what the credit limit will be and card will follow in 5 days or so.

Really nice, polite advisor in my local branch - very pleasantly surprised with the service and he has given me his direct line to call if the card doesn't arrive as expected.

(Sh)abbey took 26 days to send me a credit agreement to sign, after I had been accepted online. In the end I didn't bother returning the agreement due to their poor efficiency.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

Their application process is a shambles from all reports, but having waited the 26 days, and had the search on your credit report, I'd have taken the card and made some money out of it.

I've just called (again) them to check on my application status, made online on the 16th June. I've been told "sorry there is a huge backlog and your application hasn't been entered in the system yet!". What !!!!es me off is thefact that there doesn't seem to be any way to cancel it. I mean the credit check will go ahead once it's finally processed and then, I guess, I have the choice to say yes or no.

last time it took ages, called them every other week for 4 months and they told me card was on its way each time. In the end they told me they cancelled the application because they hadnt had the form back and was I sure that each time I had called them they had told me the card was on its way, they even said the famous lines "not being funny but....." their customer service is a mess.

I concur with the Shabbiness of CS

I got a card quite quickly last year by applying in the branch as advised on MSE.

I applied on-line for a credit increase back in May 09. Still haven't got it.

According to the CS they are "innundated" by new applications and BT request.

My application is still current and the may do it in the next 7-10 days (yeah right )

    Total farce.
