Dont ever give your number to a buyer or seller.

Let them go via the agent, it's ehat you pay them for.

Well our buyer is our seller (we're part-exchanging), we happily swopped numbers. We even 'dropped' the price of our houses by the same difference so that we could pay less EA fees and stamp duty fees. Although I agree that the EA should be doing all the work, I don't think its detrimental being on friendly terms with each other. That said I think it would be ott to go out for drinks etc.

I've never heard of that before!

I can feel another one of those bizarre conversations coming on, but I'm gonna say it anyway...

Its a while since we moved but we had the contact details of our buyers and sellers and were in touch on a regular basis.

As our youngest was under two when we moved the lady in the house we were buying suggested we spent the afternoon at the house so it wasn't unknown to him when we moved. Not only did we have a lovely afternoon with tea and cakes, but the lovely lady put two loads of my washing in her machine and hung them in her garden to dry because I had made a chance remark earlier in the day while arranging the time to go over that my washing machine had just sprung a leak.

Unfortunately my son also "sprung a leak" on the carpet but she cleaned it up with good humour while I washed my son and changed his clothes.

It can work, but not always. I gave my first buyer our number. she was always on the phone, asking silly questions and it started to grate. When she had to drop out, I didn't give number to our new buyer but had number to our seller. It was really helpful because we could track what the sols were up to with our purchase. It took only 9 weeks to complete but had we not been in touch, it would have taken a hell of a lot longer as she could tell us what they had signed or been asked for etc and then I got straight on to our sols and pestered the life out of them for required info.

I think you have to exchange numbers to keep control of what's going on.

When they get on your nerves you need to tell them to call it a day. We bought our current home of a friend of a friend so no EA. After completion he kept visiting our house because he had designed the extension and liked it so much. It became a bit much when he kept asking if it was OK to go in the main bedroom because that was his favourite room. The last straw was when he was visiting a friend in the road and I found the car parked in our drive. I politely told him that, as we had lived in the house for over a year, it was time he p$ssed off.

I often had nightmares after we moved that I had gone home to the wrong house, but I never actually did. That is quite bizarre to keep coming back like that and as for parking on the drive, that just beggars belief especially as he wasnt even calling on you.

There's only us and a FTB in our chain. We have spoken quite a bit on the phone. I don't trust EA's, solicitors etc to keep people informed, so I let him know when we found a house, let him know when our offer was accepted, mortgage accepted etc.
It has put my mind at rest, as he is the only one who could break the chain (I know we won't!) and he told me last night that him and his gf can't wait to move in, they're so excited and are sick of wasting money on rent.
It's great to know that he wants to get in here as quickly as we want to get out and into our new place...

Still panicking like mad that something will go wrong though - this is all so stressful. I look forward to bed so I can think about the new house :D

We pulled out of a sale because we couldnt get our buyers number and we didnt know what was going on. The EA wouldnt give us the number and wouldnt tell us what was going on either. So in our case it would have been better if the buyer had given us his number
