did i break the law or something re posting in a 1 year old thread

yup you needed to have had opened a web saver and stick a £1 in it in order to view the 5 year 5% bond.
No law broken, cv65user, don't worry about it.

Call me old-fashioned, but I can view my passbook for this account. It only changes once a year when interest is added. I pop the book in the post and the good people at Newcastle BS update it and send it back. I don't even need a computer. :j Simples.
• Beside my opening deposit confirmation, I've had nothing from these guys. Am I supposed to get a statement every 12 months, with tax paid and what not etc?

Newcastle BS no longer sends out annual statements but will update your passbook if you send it in.

Why do I read these old woken up threads - they only upset me!......

Now I can't find my passbook from this account - at least I asked for monthly interest payments to go into my current account.
At least I'm glad I took the plunge and grabbed the 5%

I'm going to be buying a house in the next 6 months and need to redeem my investment. I just wondered if anyone else had redeemed their money successfully from here and whether the interest was correctly calculated. Feels a shame to remove it from the 5% account but the larger deposit will reduce my rate on the total mortgage.

Hello all,

as above, the time has come for me to give my 90 day notice, close my 5yr bond and withdraw all my money. My question is, how do I go about this, and more importantly what would be the most advantageous day of the month to do it, in order to get the most interest? Or would it just be calculated daily, and so irrelevant?

Thanks!

I would write to them and advise them of your wishes.

Interest will be calculated daily, so it wont matter on what day you terminate.

There was a special term that said notice has to be in writing so suggest you give the notice in writing. The special term overrides the general term that say notice must be in person, writing or on the phone. So according to terms has to be in writing.

I quote how the special terms override the general terms and the special term itself below
The Newcastle's General Investment Terms & Conditions will apply unless they are inconsistent with these Special Conditions, effective from the date of the account opening.
Special term extract:
6. Withdrawals are permitted subject to 90 days notice. Withdrawal requests must be made in writing
