Are you a low water user?

After speaking to Anglian Water about my (metered) bill I found out they have a "No standing charge" tariff for low users. It makes sense if your bill is less than about £90-£100 every six months.
Basically the cost per ton (1000litres) is doubled, but no standing charge so your total bill is less. Also very useful if your house is empty for a few months.

Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%

The tariff for the various water companies varies a great deal. Some have high standing charges and lower water charges. Others lower standing charges and higher water charges.
For instance Severn Trent only have a Standing charge of £19.80 per year. So having that waived if your metered water charge doubled would make no sense. e.g. with water charged at £1.09 a cubic meter you would lose out if you used 20 cubic metres a year - The average is 60 cu mtrs per person PA.
You would need to look very carefully at your tariff before you exercised that option.0 -
£19.80 a year *sigh* if only that were mine. My Anglian standing charge (water and sewerage) is around £80 a year - but now nothing!
Would probably only make sense for single people who shower thoughUnless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0 -
Its called the So-Lo tariff and applies if you use less than 75 cubic meters a year

I've been on the SoLow tariff for some years with AW after doing all the calculations, and it definitely works out much cheaper for low users. (I use about 25 cubic metres a year). :j0

Gosh .... I think we drink that much !
Thought we were doing well at around 50 cubic metres each. Must persuade the other 50% to join me under the shower. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Hi,
My annual metered water bill came today and to my surprise I have overpaid by 110 pounds and they actually are giving it back to me as a cheque within 28 days. They have also offered to reduce my direct debit from 16.10 a month to just under 8 quid! All I have done is put a water saving balloon thingy in each of my 3 toilets (about 6 months ago).
Amazed but quite chuffed!
Nice to get something back for a change
Look at your bill - you may be overpaying too.

Hi Rachelmk - good news for you hey!
How do you figure out how much water you use? I think I have a standing charge - we don't have any kind of meter anyhow!
Also - how do you find out about the water balloon thingys. Would really like to investigate saving money on water! (although i'm sure we must use loads).

The balloon thing for the toilet tank is available from the United Utilities website - they just send it for free if you request one.
I think that you are basically held over a barrel if you don't have a meter as the standing charge and water volume you use is calcualted as an @average2 for your type of house, numberof people living there etc.
Try asking if they'll put you on a meter - my friend did today and she's getting it done free.

I re-use the washing machine and dish washing water down the loo, and have three large water tanks collecting rainwater.
Have been on Anglian So-Low for several years. Immense savings.Even more using 'cotton refresh'setting on the washing machine.0 -
