It'll be even easier without Internet Explorer, as you'll be prompted to select which browser you want to use during set up.

So you'll have a fresh install with Firefox.

Are they actually forcing MS to do that as my understanding of the decision was that by removing IE they wouldn't have to do that browser select prompt.

Don't think so - take a look at this:
Important: The E editions of Windows 7 do not contain an Internet browser. Please get a browser from Microsoft or a third party and have it on a CD/DVD or another device so it's ready to install after the Windows 7 installation is complete.
Not sure what that means for those who get theirs pre-installed, but I wouldn't hold my hopes up for anything sensible. ;)

Not the case at all, you will need a disc with a browser on it (99% of people will, who don't want to use FTP to download a browser).

I don't think there is anything to stop companies such as Dell from installing a browser of their choice before shipping, so it will probably only be the retail versions that will suffer.

So far I've had to buy Microsoft office which I thought would come with Outlook, but no, this is now separate.

Just fwiw that's not Vista's fault - The OS has never come with Office software.

Most people assume they did because PC's used to be made by small shops who gave you a... less than legit copy.

EDIT - OEM's are allowed to install whatever browser they like, which is good for their profit margin - if companies pay them to use their Home Page etc then they'll kill for their browser!
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Thanks guys. I stand corrected.

I could have sworn I read over at SuperSite for Windows about this, but I guess not.
