OMG, why are they making another operating system? How do I get hold of one of these free upgrade vouchers then?

They will be available free with a pc purchased after a certain date, my info is that it's from the last week of July. Looks like you are a few weeks too early to qualify.

Probably not the upgrade version doesn't start till the end of July ;) IF EVERYONE GETS THE SAME RELEASE DATE...

The latest news is that Europe will not get an upgrade version of Windows 7 due to Microsoft's petulance over the Internet Explorer bundling ruling.

Our choice will be the clean install version or a foreign import.

I wouldn't say its Microsoft's petulance, what's the point of an operating system that doesn't come with something basic like an internet browser. Typical EU garbage.
So we end up paying more.
Who are all these firms who want to sell us browsers anyway?
Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera are all free and available to all.

It was Opera who complained about Microsoft. They wanted the EU to force Microsoft to bundle other people's browsers into Windows 7. Microsoft basically said "**** that, we wont include any browser at all then you can't accuse us of bundling"

It's probably a tactical move to try and get the EU to back down, failing that they'll just start giving away IE CDs in PC World and the likes.

Personally I like having IE bundled into Windows, it makes it really easy to go and download firefox after a fresh install.

As for the OPs question, why exactly do you need Outlook. Unless you are connecting to an Exchange server (and if you are, make work pay for the bloody software) then "Windows Mail" (formerly called Outlook Express) will be fine as Outlook is awful for internet email anyway. Also you could try another free email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird.

Microsoft don't want to be in a position where they have to bundle third party browsers with their operating system which would obligate them to provide support for it, which is quite an unreasonable expectation.

The EU have once again locked in on an easy target and what they're doing won't benefit the consumer instead. Opera should maybe consider doing their own marketing, instead of trying to get someone else to do it for them.

Good point, when listing browsers earlier I couldn't remember who the other one (Opera) was, had to google it how embarrassing..............for Opera.

It'll be even easier without Internet Explorer, as you'll be prompted to select which browser you want to use during set up.

So you'll have a fresh install with Firefox.
