Vista question

After splashing out on a new computer, I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to get my software to work with it. So far I've had to buy Microsoft office which I thought would come with Outlook, but no, this is now separate. I've then been told by Sage that I will have to pay £75.00 for an upgrade as my 3 year old version will not work with it. I've now how to buy Audio Cleaning Lab.

I had no problems with any of my software when I upgraded to XP a few years ago. My new computer has cost me a fortune now.

The most annoying thing was trying to get my calendar and emails into windows live mail. In the end I had to import it into all into Google calendar and mail and then export it.

Also, why are there two internet explorers, one of which is 64 bit? What's the difference?

Not impessed so far I have to say...........................

Since when did MS Office come with outlook? Outlook is a part of office and can be standalone

did you try your programs in compatibility mode?

tbh vista is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be and is a lot better than when it first came out

    Welcome to Vista World

I have has a few problems when I upgraded to Vista when it came out, there ARE compatibility issues surrounding it. I guess the conspiracy theorist in me thinks Microsoft and major software companies get together and do this so you have to buy the gear again

One little thing to try first before you buy any upgrades. When you have the short cut on your desktop, right click it for the properties menu. There is a compatibility tab there. Select that and tick the "run as administrator" box and also tick the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select XP from the drop down box. It does not work for everything, but the occasional thing it does. Might save you a few quid

Vista overall is not to bad, just takes some getting used to

You have the 64-bit version of Windows Vista; it comes with a 32-bit version of Internet Explorer for compatibility with older browser plugins for which a 64-bit version is not yet available, including the likes of Adobe Flash. Without that extra copy of IE, you would be unable to watch YouTube videos!

The 64 bit version of IE hasn't had Adobe updating Flash for it, so you won't be able to use Youtube, Googlevideo or any other site using Flash so for the time being it's not useful as a general purpose browser.

Did you do any research into whether your programs would require upgrades or if there were free equivalents?

Microsoft office has never been part of any operating systems.

I think you mean Outlook is no longer included in Microsoft Office? Outlook is not included in Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, but is included in Microsoft Office Standard 2007 and most other versions. I think the reason for the difference is that the Home and Student version is only licensed for non-commercial use, whereas Outlook is aimed as commercial use.
