BT Direct Debit charges doubled

Sky have just told me the line rental is going up to £11 from Sept 1st
I'm considering taking my custom elsewhere, as I have O2 broadband not theirs they don't have leverage over me. 0 -
I to have just downloaded my bt bill and there are wanting to put the direct debit payment up form £30 per month to £51.50 per month. They will not alter the direct debit unless I pay the bill of £44.35 in full then they will leave the payments at £30. I have all my calls, line rental and broadband with bt so it looks like I will be going elsewhere. Any suggestions?0

oesd31 - is the revised D/D due to a change in the dates covered by the rental (as original poster)??
I can't find any info about revising billing dates on BT's site?
I'm due a bill on 20th so I'm wondering if they will try to play the same trick with me - it'll be made worse by the fact that this month's D/D isn't due til the 21st.0 -

Hi brewerdave yes the revised d/d is due to the change in the dates as original poster. Having downloaded my bill is says for the broadband and line rental "In order for your rental and bill dates to have the same start and end dates in future, we are applying a one off catch up. See the enclosed leaflet or go linline to www.bt.com/billchanges. Only if I pay the amount outstanding will they revert the d/d back to £30 per month. Unfortunately, my broadband contract does not expire until October if I wanted to cancel now they would charge £31. So I will have to sit it out til then.0 -
Thanks oesd31 - don't have BB with BT , just line rental with the free evenings and w/e package - reckon it'll add a one off charge of ~ £12 to the next bill;was thinking of moving to Madasafish to save a few quid a month - still thinking about it, contract renewal date with BT is 7th!
I'm surprised this hasn't caused a bigger stir on the forums - its a natty idea by BT to give them a healthy one off cash flow injection at the public's expense buried under a load of old toffee about making bills easier to understand!!!0 -
I'm totally confused too. Just had my bill for my free evenings/weekends package, which I pay by DD but according to how much it is, not a fixed sum.
Previously my line rental was £12.50, which for some reason was shown as £15.45 with a £2.95 credit. Last month I changed to paperless billing as they said I'd save £1 a month, so was expecting to pay £11.50 this month, but the bill is £14.20, as the line rental discount has changed from £2.95 to £1.25, without any explanation given. Also they haven't allowed for the £1 discount for paperless billing.
Seems a bit of a mess to me. Can Stephanie or anyone explain this?

HI Bogof_Babe,
I'll be happy to, it's hard to tell what's going on without actually checking your bill, do you want to PM me your details and I'll get back to you?
Cheers,
Stephanie

Thanks Stephanie but I've got it sorted now. I've tagged the story onto the end of this other thread...
