BT Direct Debit charges doubled

Has anyone else had a shocker of a BT statement this month increasing their DD to double the payment. I spoke to a customer advisor and apparently because of a new system installed by BT my charges have been doubled because BT have added 23 extra days charges to this billing quarter. Instead of billing from 1st to 31st of month the billing is from 25th to 25th.
Confused wait for it. I only use BT for line rental and was paying £13 a month, because of their new system it put my account £30.10 in debit. So my DD was increased to £26.50. So me the customer has to pay for their new system going in.
Is this fair?????? I dont think so.
If I paid off the £30.10 in debt (caused by their new system) as a one off payment my DD amount would revert back to £13.50 a month.
Any help what to do?

    Hello wyeme6,

It sounds like you're on a Monthly Payment Plan (which is a bit like a standing order, i.e. a set amount is taken from your bank account each month) so it may be worth changing your direct debit option.

If you want drop me a PM with your details and I can take a look.

    All the best,

I got the same, BT reinstated the payment after I complained, however I looked around and found that my excellent ISP does a phone line rental for £10.00 a month, they even offer 5 hours of included calls UK and many International numbers included for £12.99 a month, all with a freephone customer service that is UK based.

No brainer, I have told BT where to stuff their phone service.

If you get your phone line through Sky you wouldn't remain with BT. You would pay your line rental to Sky along with the call package, broadband and TV. Obviously you may not have all these services with Sky but I would consider a switch, we saved a few pounds on line rental alone.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

Yes, it is IDNet, no long contracts like BT or Sky, 30 day contract only, also 0870 and 0845 numbers are included as is caller display.

    First class company.

Please note that the charge for phone line rental only is £10.75 and the inclusive calls deal is £13.99 if you do not have their Broadband, but still excellent value for money.

Indeed, ( I actually pay £12.99 a month ) but that is enough for my needs, and as it includes International calls and 0870 and 0845 numbers, only 2p a minute for any excess calls over the limit.

My main reason for using IDNet is that they really are a first class company, I have used their Broadband for almost 3 years now, helplines are freephone numbers and always answered within a few rings by someone that knows their stuff based in the UK.

Whereas, I just could not understand the BT operative that I attempted to speak with recently.
