Cancelling BT Broadband - WHAT A NIGHTMARE

OK so I want to cancel my BT broadband and move to O2. I got my MAC and that worked for O2 so order placed.
Now I phoned to cancel with BT and they said they will contact me once O2 give them the MAC and take over my line. Is this correct?
As a precaution I have cancelled by BT broadband DD because they take quarterly payments of around £70 which is due on 5th July.
My contract ends on 30th July and that is the date I want to cancel from.
Will BT stop my line because I have cancelled my DD or will they contact me first? I asked on the cancellation line but the girl said I should let it go through then claim it back. NOT BLOODY LIKELY. I am happy to pay for my last month but ONLY my last month and no more! Should I be scared of BT or is their bark worse than their bite?

In theory BT Openreach/Wholesale should advise the losing ISP that service has been migrated by MAC process once the order is closed.
Always best to confirm once you are up and running with new ISP and any charges due should then be paid/reclaimed.
Quite possible I suppose that by cancelling the DD you've created problems for yourself.
Hopefully the BT rep will advise further.0 -
Hi Kavanne,
First of all, please do not be scared of BT! And if anything does go wrong, I am here to sort things out in any way I can.
Now, back to your accountBT usually bills customers for three months in advance so even though you have cancelled your direct debit chances are the bill will still be for the three month's broadband. But do not fret. Does your broadband bill incorporate the landline bill as well, or is just for broadband?
Thanks,
Stephanie

The bill is just for broadband. I cannot afford to pay the full 3 months. They said on the phone they would send a final bill to me once I had cancelled. I was hoping this will have a negative balance of the one month I owe them (for July) which I can then pay manually.
How can a bill for 3 months of service stand when I will have only received one month's serviceThere is no money to pay them.....

When I recently switched from Ukonline to O2, I got my MAC code from ukonline, ukonline told me to contact them once I was on O2.
Gave MAC code to O2, O2 switched me over a few weeks later, I called Ukonline told them this and they sent me an email to say goodbye and that my payments to them has been cancelled.
Only difference is it sounds like BT are going to ring you, when O2 have informed them of the switchover. I personally wouldn't wait for the call, but once you are on O2, then ring BT tell them and ask them to cancel.0 -

Maybe it's because you want to migrate before your contract finishes! If you ask for your MAC on or after it expires day then you'd pay nothing extract, and if they takle it as a quartly payment, then they should refund the 2 months that weren't used.0 -
No, my contract finishes on 30 july. I want them to cease billing me from this date. I cannot pay them the extra 2 months I AM NOT obliged to have service from them lol.
They also sent me an email today saying they can give me telephone + option 1 for £15.88 per month. No thanks, option 1 has 10GB usage allowance which is useless for me and my iPlayer addiction!!Kavanne

vincent at 6pm cancelled it straight away without having to put me through to anyone. how strange. now i am waiting on the line to make a complaint.
i am apalled by bt's 'customer options team' who i have phoned 4 times now and each time been transferred when clearly they could action the cancellation themselves!!!!!!!!!Kavanne

Also BT said there was no way O2 could offer me the 14Mbps they claimed they would. To this, I replied, if O2 can give me the same speed for under half the price, I will be happy!! (that is when the rep hung up on me)Kavanne
