right let me get this straight.....because the minority of people dont drink resposably (THEIR CHOICE) that should spoil it for the rest of us.

cardiffforthefacup does have a point though.
The government and supermarkets have a part to play, you can buy lager cheaper than water in the supermarkets, which is not right.

    anyway, good spot op
  • No I wasn't saying that at all what I was implying is that shops like tesco selling strong alcohol like vodka at pocket money prices encourages people to drink in greater quantities than is good for health and enables underage drinkers to buy stronger alcohol that would normally be out of their price range. Sensible drinkers would probably avoid these cheapies and go for something of better quality anyway.

never heard of these makes before, but im sure ill check them out now there cheaper.

if tesco want to reduce evrything in there shop i for one would be happy

they get slated for increasing prices and now they are getting slated for dropping them, they cant win......it aint tescos fault if people dont drink responsably.

they have a part to play though, not everyone is as sensible as you.
  • I too would be happy if tesco reduced everything healthy in their shops, I'm not slating them for dropping or increasing their prices but a market leader with a huge percentage of the consumer market could act a bit more responsibly and try reducing the prices on fruit and vegetables and fish and meat instead of making vodka a loss leader.

    Nonsense.

There's no "part to play" at all.

People are responsible for their own actions.

Supermarkets have no obligation but to maximise their profits.

They're no more responsible for selling strong alcohol to abusers than they are for selling bleach to people who'll try and drink it, cooking knives to people who'll stab themselves with it and so on.

The only outcome of dropping prices is to let the rich kids get drunk, instead of the poor kids. Great.

There needs to be a cultural shift, accompanied by renewed interest in responsible drinking from pubs, clubs and the rest to sort this mess out - charging the working man extra in the supermarket just ain't gonna cut it.

Just some info on the Selekt Vodka, Me and my family tried this a while back and it made us very sick the next day, we now drink Tesco make and get on with it ok. The Tesco value 70cl bottle is great stuff for around a £1 more.
