I'm with Andy on this. It's a shame it couldn't be a store pick-up item.
    I think it is wrong.

This is a rather non sensical complaint. No website includes delivery charges in their prices. Why aren't you complaining about Amazon or HMV. Companies with store pick up is usually when the item is available in store so they don't have to deliver anything either to your home or the store of your choice and so it costs them nothing.

Just be thankful that you didn't buy the item at pre-sale price. You have to weigh up if this is a good deal after paying the postage. If not, shop elsewhere and Argos lose your custom. You may be complaining about paying for delivery, but their is a cost to running a lorry, paying for petrol and the delivery persons wages - they certainly won't work for free!

I worked as a Christmas temp at argos when I was 17. There was nothing more annoying that a middle age bloke ordering really heavy things like huge TV's, or furniture and expecting me to carry it to his car when he could pick it himself up easily (and I know they could because I would watch them put it in the car because I couldn't actually lift it high enough to get it in the boot so they would reluctantly give me a hand). I wish they had only offered home delivery for items like that. Needless to say I will never work in argos again.

    1. I've bought stuff from Amazon and HMV on quite a few ocassions and never paid a penny for delivery. These aren't the best examples.

    2. If you order items over £25 from Tesco Direct you can arrange for them to be delivered to a Tesco store and collect them free of charge at that store. I'm pretty sure that other retailers can offer this services so why not Argos?

I still stand by my argument that if Argos advertise an item as costing £32 then they should make it possible to buy that item for £32. If they can't cope with the amount of stock they are advertising perhaps they need to think about reducing their product range so that they can cope better and not be left with disappointed customers.

So if Argos can't stock an item in their store but can stock it in their warehouse they should withdraw it completely even for people who are willing to pay for it to be delivered?

There is no room in the back warehouse of any argos for items like this to be stored. Heavy items are stored at the back because the delivery guys can't be bothered/wont/cant carry them further to the front and the people who work there have to lug it all the way to the front of the store. That is why they don't offer a choice of collection at the store for these items. You may be able to lift it but that doesn't mean everyone can and some items dont fit on them silly little trolleys they have (there are also not enough of these trolleys either)

Heres a run-down of costs that would be incurred if you went to pick the item up, compared to the delivery charge:

Petrol to & from Argos £1.50
Motoring costs (MOT, Tax, Insurance etc) £3.00
Loss of wages (for 1 hour) £6.50
Food (energy to walk into Argos & carry product out) £0.75
    TOTAL £11.75
    COST OF PRODUCT £32.00
    GRAND TOTAL £43.75

    compared to Argos' charges

    COST OF PRODUCT £32.00
    DELIVERY £5.80
    GRAND TOTAL £37.80

Savings by using Argos for delivery: £5.95

If they can't cope with the amount of stock they are advertising perhaps they need to think about reducing their product range so that they can cope better and not be left with disappointed customers.

Remember that TV commercial where they said if they fit everything in a store their prices will rise? And anyway, you have already said it was a good price for what you wanted...

I don't think you'll find many retailers who offer collect in store for internet only items. Even Tesco only do this for small items at a limited number of locations.

    Ah ha!
I got them on this one. I recently bought an Iron (it was advertised as only being at this price a few days more so I assumed it would go up). Next day it went DOWN by £50! too late already used it. So I went and bought another one at the lower price and took it straight back for a refund against the 1st higher receipt. Easy way to get the £50 back. Thanks Argos!
