The one objection I have to Milk men is they bring your milk 3-4 days sometimes in advance of when you want it, so then it is sitting around in your fridge for days and it is not very fresh when you want it. However, shop milk, you can go buy fresh milk every other day, so it is much fresher at the time of use!:beer:0

The other thing I would say is, unless they are going to bring your milk nice and early(6-30am ish), then it is going to be too late as you will have gone to work. Then you milk will be off once you come home after it has been sat out all day.:beer:0

Have you checked the sell-by date on supermarket milk? And how do you know how long it has been hanging around waiting to be delivered to the supermarket?
Providing it has been stored properly, milk has a reasonable life. My milkman leaves my bottles in the porch which gets the morning sun. In fact, when I open the front door in the morning the smoke alarm beeps! I have never had milk turn sour!0 -

I suppose Milk from the Milk man could fresher than from the shops.
Milk is best drunk hot fresh from the cow, but it is not recommended by food standards, but it was always the way milk was drunk!:beer:0 -
The freshest milk we can get comes from the local shop- it lasts about a week normally (we have milk tokens so get all 4 litres at once). The milkman's milk we got until a year ago, where sometimes it would be off on delivery and always by the next day (he delivers 3 times a week). The dairy the shop uses isn't that far away, so we're very happy with it. Supermarket milk lasts longer than the milkman's, but not as long as the local shops. We're also supporting a local business this way, even though we refuse to buy bread there (£1.50 a loaf ).Purple Penguin Power!

Well I have to agree with DFC and say that for some things we need to look beyond the price and consider at 'what price' are you getting your milk at 25p per pint pigpen? It may be ok at the moment, but I don't want my milk to be shipped to this country from elsewhere because our dairy farmers have been 'sent to the wall'.
We are all moneysavers on this site, but remember most people will pay more per litre for bottled water than they will for milk.0 -
In case anyone else stumbles across this old threat, I'd just like to add that every year we buy the dairy cook book from our milkman; it's the only cook book I buy now, a real treat, and excellent value.
Our milkman comes Mon/Wed/Fri (he does a different route Tues/Thurs/Sat) and reaches us at 6:30. We pay 50p/pint which I think is reasonable especially considering the hassle involved in getting fresh milk during the week - otherwise we'd have to buy at the weekend and have it hanging around (or just run out)
You spent twenty thousand francs on this !!!!!!??

I use a milkman, but in my experience the use by date on shop milk is always much longer than that on my delivered milk.Stompa0
