Sadly no joy with BT - I have phoned them and as its been 4 years since the line was connected an engineer visit is required and a installation charge of £122.50.
I understand there is an 18 month contract option but I cannot afford to risk whether or not I make 10 chargeable calls a month - esspecially since I am only going to be using the line for broadband.

these re-connection charges are awful!
since when did they get so high?
If the 18 month contract doesn't sound too daunting go for that. If it's primarily for broadband might be worth checking if you're in a cabled area - you may find it's cheaper to get broadband only (no phone) via the cable provider.0
