The free connection that BT are offering you have to ask for. They don't mention it when you ask for connection, they just tell you that it is £122. I and DD have been connected this month but it is really important that you ask them. They are really devious!

I moved into a new build in 2002 and it was £125 +VAT for a new line so seemingly they've come down!
If the 18 month contract doesn't sound too daunting go for that. If it's primarily for broadband might be worth checking if you're in a cabled area - you may find it's cheaper to get broadband only (no phone) via the cable provider.
