Dixons 3 days online sale and closing down sales (merged)

Well from the Birthplace of Dixons,Southend on sea, I do shed a tear.

I remember the original first shop. Half a small shop width, three peoples' width, selling cameras and cine cameras and projectors. Thay kept it open until the area was redeveloped to build a brand new mall called The Royals.
I did have fun later in life going into the other stores they opened in Southend testing the knowledge of the staff on their products.
Only met 2 who really knew what they were talking about. They infact informed me.
Considering there is a brand new Currys just of the centre of town, I would assume that Dixons in the High Street will close down. Have not been able to get into town to confirm this.
If it does then it will be the first time since the company founded that there will not be a Dixons in the High Street. That's why I will shed a tear.
As of a company now, They are bloody awful !!!! :rotfl:The more I live, the more I learn.

Reading the blog on the BBC news page I can't see how it is going to cost them 7m to rebrand. The only difference between C & D is that C sells the bigger 'home' White appliances while Dixons is more TV's, DVD, PC's, Cameras and the like.
Changing Store signs, headed note paper, Web Page changes.
It all costs money you Know, people don't do it for free!
If You d find people who do , send them to me

Umm yes the samsung is full price so wouldnt call it an offer in fact there is a thread here somewhere where you can get it for £480 from freemans using a 20% off code"Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -

I think some of you have missed the main meaning of the message issued by Dixons/Currys.digital.
At this time it is a rebranding exercise, and therefore cannot see any reason for there to be a mass clearout of stores via crazy deals (that we all love so much)
The main thing to expect is this, if you shop at your local Dixons now, and spend over a £100 you'll get a £15 voucher to use once it is re-branded to Currys.digital.
Also over the next 2 months, expect to see your local Dixons, to change to Currys.digital, please note that when this happens all the staff that are there now, will still be there to serve you in new shirts. That is what re-branding means.
On another note, do not expect to see any major amoutns of stores closing in the near future, think you will have to wait for that. I am sure that a very small amount of stores will close shortly. As for a massive amount, like we saw 2 years ago, where a hundred stores where closed, I think that is more of a maybe, rather than a definate. As the reasoning of there being a big Currys superstore nearby, is not enough otherwise why waste money on the ".digital" difference between the to types of store!
I hope this helps some of the people that have lost sight of the oiginal message issued by Dixons.
Sad to see the high street changing once again. I am gonna sit on the fence, as to whether Dixons/Currys.digital should closedown or not, as everyones experience is different.
If I'm wrong, I look forward to grabbing some bargains:dance:

I worked at that store for 2 years between 1999-2001. Changes were made then going to the dixons 21 store layout. Sorry to hear it is gradually going... but Curry's is certainly easier to get to, with most having free parking right outside.0 -
I'll certainly miss the Dixons of old. I still have the pair of binoculars (Prinz of course) that my Dad bought me on the opening day of the Stevenage store in 1973.
Whenever there were major technolgical innovations (digital watches, calculators, computers even) we'd rush down to the store aftr school to see what had come in and imagine the day we'd be rich enough to own our own computer!
Lately I think the store has lost its way, mostly due to being halfway between Currys and PC World. But it's a part of history nonetheless. Can I help?0 -
I had seen wires cables etc at half price 50% off and mp3, digi cameras, cordless phones 10% off and 20% on dvd players and hifis mostly display models I got a 4 in 1 kamelion remote control for 12.50 thats generation 1 so I'll be returing that. blank media is at 50% too, but tbh most of the things in dixons were and are expensive and it was super markets that introduced me to divx dvd players not dixon. Still it was good to have in town to be kept updated on whats new in gadget world.

Ive always thought Dixons was poo, I had a few experiences of ill mannered and knowledge lacking staff in my time. Still i know my view is obscured by my poor experinces but i will not be sorry to see it go.
The staff also reminded me of car sales people (not having a go at car sales people before you start ) but they always rushed at trying to find out why i was entering the shop before i could even look around.Watch out, you never know who is about.0 -
It was the oldham brach when i went there i didnt see anymore but I returnd mine as its gen1 and needed 4x aaa batteries ans wights a tun. They did have arials and things but they are selling quick I am waiting for them to do further reductions so I can get thing I dont really need now but might be usefull.
Also on the plus side I just saw a mobile phone a nokia colour screen no cam laying there handed it to the reception, Cant live with keeping it etc so feel good for doing a good deed.
