The suspense is killing me!!!

So we finally have a buyer for our house and have put an offer in on the house that we want to buy.

The house is on the market for £275k and we offered £250k last week. When we made the offer we said that we would put it on the table for 7 days. They have told us they will consider the offer and give us an answer on Tuesday morning!

Before we put the offer in the estate agent had already advised us that they had rejected an offer of £250k within the past couples of weeks so we assumed that they would probably turn around and say no to the offer straight away. But we were surprised to find that the vendors didn't turn our offer down outright and are making the most of the 7 days. I am hopefull that they might agree to our offer but the suspense is literally killing me!

Their house has been on the market for about 2 months and has had 6 viewings and now two offers of 250k. I am hoping these are all positive signs for us but don't want to get carried away!

Anyway just needed to get that off my chest, I think my friends and family are sick of hearing about it! Only another 40 hours to wait!

Why did you only give them seven days?

We thought this was a generous amount of time for them to be able to consider the offer and we do not have time to hang around as we do not want to lose our buyer. We have never had to wait a long period of time when previously purchasing properties. Do you think this is unreasonable then?

I've never felt the need to give a deadline at all. Why give seven days and then be surprised that the vendors are taking seven days?

Personally I wouldn't give a deadline but each to their own. If someone takes what I consider too long then I'd phone the EA and tell them I need an answer by x time or day. I do try to remain cool about it though because if you show it bothers you they might get the idea that you really like the property. We have had some slow responses to offers but mainly down to the EA being slow to pass them on. You'd have thought they'd be keen. Having said that we're waiting to hear back after an offer made Friday. The EA says the vendors have vanished. Maybe they don't want to sell!

Thanks Firefox, I think I have given the wrong impression, i'm not at all surprised they have taken 7 days, i'm just terribly impatient and can't stand having to wait around, we felt that considering they had already had an offer of 250k which they have rejected that if we went in with 250k they might try to negotiate us up, and unfortunately our final and best offer is 250k. So therefore the 7 days was to make it more serious, that we want the house but can only go to this limit and we will leave the offer out for 7 day and if they still find it unacceptable we'll go elsewhere. Take it or leave it sort of thing.

My fingers are crossed for you shirlgirl2004, I hope your offer is accepted. Its horrible having to wait! Hopefully you will hear back tomorrow morning.

Wow. Are you dead yet then?

Is it really, literally killing you? Actually?

It was a bump (as I want to find out what happens), a comment about the English language (it seems that literally appears to have become an antonym of itself without people realising) and also a concern that a member of the forum may be suffering and that this may have been a call for help (kind of like those message board suicides that occassionally reach the news).

Well we still haven't had a reply but called the EA this morning and told him if we didn't have an answer by 2pm we'd withdraw the offer. We didn't hear anything so we've agreed a price on another property. :j

Hope the morning phone call is a good one. Let us know.
