I think they are keeping the name for online shopping, which is interesting because online shopping is booming. I always thought Currys and Dixons sold similar stuff anyway. One sold washing machines and the other didnt :)

I agree with Scoobs, let hope for some bargains.

What does this say about DSG if these are clearly the same shop with the same backoffice infrastructure, yet by rebranding the stores and transferring the staff to currys it will save them £3m annually? Are they really making such a royal !!!! up of things behind the scenes? No wonder the stores have the reputation they do ;)

When I was at school Currys sold bicycles, bought my first tape recorder from the store in Ludlow (it had a BSR deck).
PC World, Currys, Dixons and The Link (if it still exists) are all in the same group and as such are best avoided.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Different store name. Same spotty know-nothing kids serving in the store though! I for one shan't mourn the passing of the name.

DSG have a great business model. Basically, they look at what everyone else is charging... then they double that price. But as long as their tabloid newspaper & TV advertisements say, "LOW LOW PRICEZ ON TOP ELECTRONIX FINGZ!!!!111ONE" the naive consumers will always believe it.

    So true!

So they are going to concentrate on the online business? How funny because the only reason people buy from the Dixons online is because they trust them due to their highstreet reputation. There can't be any other reason because they are more expensive than anywhere else. So way to go Dixons. Shoot yourself in the foot. Close your shops on the high street which are the only reason your online business is a success.

I had the misfortune to work for Currys a few years back over christmas. I was in the warehouse.

the staff are total idiots, they know very little about anything, and will genually sell you what YOU want. I recall one insident when i had to fetch out a PC for someone as a replacment for one he had brought the pervious day. the guy insisted on opening it, when he did he said it wasent the right one and started shouting at me (the 16 year old warehouse kid). i fetched the sales assistant and it turns out he had gotten the impression that the PC was a laptop. i have no doubt the customer was a a bit dim, but im sure the sales assistant didnt explaine the product to him.

The business model isnt on dubbleing prices but selling unneeded insurance polices and accessories - for example scart leads start at £7 for the same ones in the pound shop

it really was a horrible place to work, full of college dropouts and middle aged managers who knew nothing and cared less. I really do hate place like that.

i think 90% of the stock will just get moved to currys tbh, they sell exactly the same stuff!!!
