Those were the prices I paid. Definitely bargains. If you were to take the cost of a new reader, then add the cost of the accessories...

Or you could be patient, and wait for one of these:

More expensive, but probably overall a lot better value.

It depends on what it does, and what the screen is.

The big reason people are going for Ereaders over Netbooks etc is generally fairly simple, a combination of the size and screen.

If the Apple tablet has a normal lcd type touch screen it's not going to be readable under the same variety of conditions the Eink displays are, and it's battery life is going to be a lot less, as the eink displays mean you can go for many hours use between charges as it's not using any power to maintain the display - something that a normal LCD type display can't manage (and the reason most netbooks/notepads/laptops/tablet computers/mobile phones will blank the display after a short period of inactivity).

Rumour has it that it's going to be a new type of screen which will work as well as e-ink for reading. We shall see.......

Again, depends what you want it for.

I already have an Ipod, Blackberry, Desktop, Netbook & Reader, each has its own uses and purpose.

I dont want 1 gadget to rule them all, having had a number of combined all purpose gadgets over the years when 1 part of it dies your stuffed.

Also, when i am on holiday i dont want e-mail, net, tv, phone etc, all i want is my Family & some books - the whole point of a holiday to us is to get away from it all, not take it with you.

  • Does anyone have an opinion of the Sony E reader 700? My sister can get me one for £149 from the PX in Bahrain. I can get a 300 for £129, fancy a pink one!

I have a 505 and was wondering if it was worth getting the 700, which is touch screen, but has been replaced by the 600 ( I believe, less than a year later)
  • "Sony spokesman Kyle Austin also claimed The Lost Symbol set a single day record for e-sales, outselling other releases more than 10 times on Tuesday.
Doubleday released the digital edition of the thriller, despite industry concerns that the lower priced e-book could harm sales of the hardback."

The cheapest I can find is 9.50 from Waterstones. How is that cheaper than the actual book (which was 4.99 on Amazon UK when I looked yesterday)??

From what I know - and I could be wrong - the main difference is that the 700 has a light built-in which the others don't.

Is there any reason you want to change from your 505? I personally wouldn't go for a 300 from the 505 as the screen is smaller than the 505.

The touch screens are more reflective.

I think the 700 is touch and so more reflective.

I've the 505 and use it daily on the tube train it work perfectly in blazing sun when the tube is overground but is still readable in the tunnels etc.

The screen is so clear that I notice even a tiny spec of dust on it.

The 505 screen does not seem to attract dust compared to other devices I have
    Nokia N800, PSP etc..

I've never owned an Ebook device before. Very impressed.

I use Calibre for the feeds for newspapers, blogs etc, and Project Gutenberg and the US Sony store for all their free Google books.

I love the Jeeves books PG Wodehouse, Origin of Species C Darwin.

Oh Libravox has free audio books too.
